Christmas Memory Game English/ French

Christmas Memory Game English/ French

A vocabulary game based on the children’s game “Memory” Aim of the lesson - To teach the vocabulary of Christmas in English and French, and have fun. This lesson is useful for students of French at all levels, also for ESL learners with a French background, especially as a fun activity at Christmas time. It is based on the children’s game memory. Instructions Firstly, you need two sets of cards for each group of students. Print the cards in colour if possible, then use the image on page 6, or another suitable image for the back of the cards. Laminate your sets of cards, they will last much longer. Then cut out the cards and give two sets of cards to each group. The students should spread the cards out on the table upside down and shuffle them around. Then one of the group turns over two cards these are the starter cards there should always be two cards open in this way.

12 French Quizzes for Different Levels

12 French Quizzes for Different Levels

Attached is a list of 12 cultural quizzes on France for KS3,4,5 students. Please check the title to find out the targeted audience. Most of them are interactive PPT so can be displayed on whiteboard and played in teams. I use these quizzes at the end of term or for starters/plenaries with great effect. Students really like it as it's covering a range of cultural topics about France ( medias, geography, history, famous people) and it's a refreshing change from the linguistic side of their FRench studies. The quizzes appear in different formats, Word or PPT mainly, and are editable. Enjoy!

Bastille Day Lesson

Bastille Day Lesson

A lesson all about Bastille Day including a range of activities. It is presented in English, so it is suitable for low-ability or younger pupils. It could also be used during form time for cultural awareness. Includes: -Presentation of facts with questions mixed in to check understanding (these could be answered on mini-whiteboards). -Listen to the Marseillaise and put the French lyrics into the right order (first verse, chorus and second verse). Then match to the English translations (flashcards are included, plus link to anthem.) -Two truths and one lie: pupils must decide which statement about France is false/myth (again mini-whiteboards would be good for this!) -Word race: use dictionaries to find translations for all the vocabulary.

French calendar

French calendar

The French calendar resource has 3 sheets. The calendar with the French holidays highlighted, information about French holidays and questions on the French holidays. I have done this with students as a memory test, talking about the year and the various holidays then giving them the calendar and the questions on it to see how much they remember, could also be done as a team or pair game. Good for getting students to understand some of the cultural similarities and differences.
