Spelling and Vocabulary - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Spelling and Vocabulary - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

If you are reading Harry Potter with your class this will come in handy. From chapter one of this first book I have pulled ten spellings along with the line of text where they appear. I have a list of vocabulary builder words from this chapter. The lesson involves reading the text (assigned as homework or in class) and going through the vocabulary (definitions included here as taken from the Oxford English dictionary). The homework involves learning the spellings. Flash cards of the spelling ad vocabulary are also included. Please bear in mind these are UK spellings.

Supporting trans-identified students

Supporting trans-identified students

**Introduction ** This guidance has been developed by Transgender Trend in partnership with teachers and child welfare staff to help primary and secondary school professionals navigate the challenges raised by new transgender schools guidelines and to help teachers develop the confidence to manage these issues in day-to-day school life, so that all children feel supported and safe The number of children who identify as transgender has risen exponentially over the last few years and this has left schools unprepared for the complex issues which may arise in an area in which most teachers will have had no previous professional experience. Advice given by transgender organisations is focused upon the transgender individual and may not look at the holistic duty of the school community as a whole. The aim of Transgender Trend is to clarify the information contained within current schools resources and equip teachers to feel confident in their own professional judgement in critically appraising such materials. Transgender Trend provides research-based evidence and alternative strategies which will help teachers to best support not only the child who identifies as transgender but all children who defy gender and sex-role stereotypes. To enable teachers to confidently support all students in their learning and realisation of their potential this guidance examines the areas of ‘transgender rights’ which may conflict with the rights of other students and encourage teachers towards workable and creative solutions in line with the Equality Act and Public Sector Equality Duty guidance for schools. Washing Your Hands - step by step with Widgit supported text

Washing Your Hands - step by step with Widgit supported text

Learners are able to follow the step-by-step guide to washing their hands. Photos can be taken of the learner each step of the way, which can then be printed off and glued into the resource. There is also a prompt sheet in Widgit supported text, to enable a simple sentence to be constructed (either copied or cut out and stuck) under each photo stating what is happening. This would be great for learners with SEN or Learning Difficulties and Disabilities.

Dictado / Dictation Planner Templates - Bilingual

These are templates to use for a weekly dictado / dictation for bilingual classrooms that follow dual language / dual immersion formats. This closely follows the Biliteracy Squared format from Kathy Escamilla. Students do the dictado 3-5 times in the week. Space is provided above each line for students to write their corrections during the teacher talk-through. Day 1: Teacher reads the dictado and students write what they hear. Teacher then talks through correct writing of the dictado as students write corrections above the lines. Day 2 (optional): Students take turns giving the dictado to their partners. Day 3: Repeat Day 1 Day 4 (optional): Repeat Days 2 Day 5: Teacher gives dictado and collects final dictados to grade. The templates are provided in English and Spanish on different sheets. There are some pages with less lines for the lower grades and others with more lines for the upper grades. I created this this year for my 1st grade dual language / dual immersion students and it was such a great success that I passed it along for my other Kinder, 1st grade, and 2nd grade colleagues to use. This has really helped us in our intentionality in planning our dictados in both English and Spanish! Copyright © Josh Rageth. All rights reserved by author.
