This resource includes 10 questions, some open ended with low floor high ceiling questions. You might just want to use one or two of the questions as a main and make them practical. The IWB presentation includes some of the types of q's from worksheet. They have a mastery feel and allow the children to use their reasoning skills. DIY rekenrek (20 bead frame counter)

Knowing and using friendly numbers/buddy numbers/partners to make 10 comes from being able to visualise the number and a rekenrek is a great resource to have for students. This is the small student sized DIY one you can make with some beads, pipe cleaners and a paint stirrer (much sturdier than foam) The red/white beads show the relationships between 5 and 10 (for example it is also easy to show 7 as one row of 5 and 2 more or a row of 4 and a row of 3 to show the doubles component).

Arrays - Printables for Teaching Multiplication & Division by Visualising Groups

A selection of array sheets with examples, which can be printed and used as a differentiated resource in primary maths and special education, for teaching multiplication and division. Groups of spots, fishes, cupcakes, and dinosaurs are provided. Each page of array symbols has separate rows or columns differentiated by colour or shading, to help with subitizing. Students can use the array sheet to circle groups, and then write corresponding pairs of number sentences. They can then check their number sentences by counting the objects in each group they have circled, and making sure that they match. Students can also use the sheets to test each other with multiplication and division. One student circles the objects, and the other writes the correct number sentence/s which correspond with the grouping/s their partner made. Students who are beginning multiplication can use the sheet for visualising and writing number sentences relating to 2x, 5x and 10x tables. Students who are ready for more advanced multiplication can use the sheet for number sentences relating to 3x, 4x, 6x, 7x, 8x and 9x tables. Students who are learning division can use the array sheet to visualise whole groups split into parts. Example uses for both multiplication and division are given. Several visual groupings and pairs of number sentences can be fit onto each array page template. Both colored and black and white versions are included. Some students who have used these array sheets, circle the groups with colored markers, and then write the matching number sentences near the bottom of the page, in the same colors. The color-coding is an additional aid to visualizing and recognizing multiplication and division patterns.

This product is a free sample of the complete package which contains Maths screeners for Number, Place Value, Patterns and Algebra as well as Decimals as set out in the Australian Curriculum. ACARA references are provided for those who need them. There are 4 screeners (2 pages each) for each year level from Year 2 to Year 5. All the answers are included. I have also added Class Overviews which you can use after you have administered a screener to the whole class. Collating the results can be done by a teaching assistant or willing volunteer and you will have a good preliminary idea of the range of skills and the degree of differentiation required. The screeners are basic and give diagnostic information to identify and manage intervention groups. They provide a range of data to begin group work targeting skill deficits. You will identify further scaffolding requirements as you go, but these screeners are the first step. My IMP programs are ideal to provide the intervention necessary and the games I use consolidate these skills. I've been doing it this way for years now, and I know it works. I have a bundle containing the four programs for a school-wide intervention strategy. I also have bundles at year levels with the games that target skill deficits specific to that year level if you want to go that way.
