FIFA World Cup 2018: Maths Activities

FIFA World Cup 2018: Maths Activities

FIFA WORLD CUP 2018 is HERE! Coming from a ‘football crazy’ class, I knew my class would want to spend the end of year engaging with content based around the FIFA world cup. This resource involves the whole class and is a way to consolidate maths through the World Cup. I have included: PPT for the names of 30 children PPT for the names/groups of the countries in the World Cup Scoreboard to track who is winning/competing against who. Research sheet to engage children with the country they chose Over 45 different maths questions WITH answers Game rules Example of a layout of who plays who Children names will be drawn from a hat along with a country. They will then be representing this country in the game. Children will roll a dice 6 times. If either competing team rolls a 6, this equates to one goal IF they can answer the a maths question (included) correctly. If they get it incorrect, the goal has been saved by their opponent. Aimed at KS2. Can be eaily adapted for your children too. In my class, there are only 18 students, but I have included enough for 30. (As there is 2 extra teams, the first two children ‘out’ can come back in. An exhilarating, fun activity for those ‘End of Year’ days that we all crave activities for. We really enjoyed it :)

Mental maths dice game

Mental maths dice game

Here’s a great game for developing mental maths skills. Children have to roll three dice. They use the numbers they roll to make as many totals as possible. For example, suppose they roll 1, 3, 5, they could then make these totals 3 x 5 + 1 = 16 5 — 1 — 3 = 1 13 x 5 = 65 3 + (1 x 5) = 8 They can use any operation sign ( + - x ÷ ) and also brackets to show the order of operation. As they make a number, they colour it on the grid. Eventually they will not be able to make any more numbers. At this point, roll the dice again and use a different colour. The challenge is to complete the grid, making every number whilst using as few colours and as few rolls of the dice as possible. Is it possible to complete the whole grid? Which numbers were hardest? Were any numbers impossible to make? Ideal for upper KS2 or lower KS3

Royal Wedding 2018 Maths - Harry and Meghan Party Planning Activity

Royal Wedding 2018 Maths - Harry and Meghan Party Planning Activity

This is a great resource for children to use for maths when we celebrate the Royal Wedding 2018. The teacher simply needs to add the prices depending on the year group’s needs (and differentiate it for different groups) and then children work on word problems (mostly multiplication) about party planning with Royal Wedding Merchandise… There are also two group tasks if you would like a more open ended activity; one where children decide what to buy for how many people and find the total and one where children plan on a budget that you set and have to figure out what they can get for the amount they have. AGain the teacher will have to add prices. I hope that works - feedback very welcome, have already acted upon feedback and improved the resource. I also included a powerpoint about Buckingham Palace - interior and exterior - to show children what it looks like and to get an idea of Royal life. There is a pictures of the castle and a very quick one slided introduction to problem-solving - again prices written on there but can be adjusted. Attached as word doc and pdf.
