Summer 2022 IGCSE Biology Predicted Exam - Edexcel Paper 1B

(4)
With exam boards having recently published detailed breakdowns of the specification points that will be assessed in the upcoming Summer 2022 exams, our department heads have been hard at work to create a paper that predicts what questions may be asked in these exams. This is for the following paper: 4BI1 - 1B These questions are completely original and have been designed from scratch. There has been no reuse of previous exam questions. Our predicted paper follows the format of the true Edexcel IGCSE Biology 1B paper closely, with the CORMS and graph question included. It is also the exact duration and mark-count, with questions of increasing difficulty. A mark scheme is also attached. The paper covers the following specification points: • Topic 2d Movement of substances into and out of cells (including practical 2.17 (2.15 – 2.17) • Topic 2g Gas exchange (including practical 2.50) (2.46 – 2.50) • Topic 2h Transport (2.51 – 2.54, 2.59 – 2.62, 2.65 – 2.69) • Topic 2j Co-ordination and response (2.80 – 2.94) • Topic 3a Reproduction (3.1 – 3.9, 3.11 – 3.13) • Topic 3b Inheritance (3.14 – 3.15, 3.19 – 3.20, 3.22 – 3.34, 3.38 – 3.39) • Topic 5b Selective breeding (5.10 – 5.11) Disclaimer: This document was created by department heads with many years of experience teaching the Pearson Edexcel IGCSE Biology course. We cannot however guarantee that it is an accurate representation of the Summer 2022 examinations and students should not treat it as such. Edexcel IGCSE Physics Lecture 30 - Fission and Fusion

(0)
Powerpoint lecture covering the following in a modern, concise format: Specification Point 7.17 - Know that nuclear reactions, including fission, fusion and radioactive decay, can be a source of energy. Specification Point 7.18 - Understand how a nucleus of U-235 can be split by collision with a neutron, and that this process releases energy as kinetic energy of the fission products. Specification Point 7.19 -Know that the fission of U-235 produces two radioactive daughter nuclei and a small number of neutrons. Specification Point 7.20 - Describe how a chain reaction can be set up if the neutrons produced by one fission strike other U-235 nuclei. Specification Point 7.21 - Describe the role played by the control rods and moderator in the fission process. Specification Point 7.22 - Understand the role of shielding around a nuclear reactor. Specification Point 7.23 - Explain the difference between nuclear fusion and nuclear fission. Specification Point 7.24 - Describe nuclear fusion as the creation of larger nuclei resulting in a loss of mass from smaller nuclei, accompanied by a release of energy. Specification Point 7.25 - Know that fusion is the energy source for stars. Specification Point 7.26 - Explain why nuclear fusion does not happen at low temperatures and pressures, due to electrostatic repulsion of protons. Complete set of Chapter 7 Lectures are available.

The paper covers the following specification points: • Topic 1e - Chemical formulae, equations and calculations (1.25 – 1.36) • Topic 1i - Electrolysis (1.55C – 1.60C) • Topic 2b - Group 7 (2.5 – 2.8C) • Topic 2c - Gases in the atmosphere (2.9 – 2.14) • Topic 2e - Extraction and uses of metals (2.22C – 2.27C) • Topic 2f - Acids, alkalis and titrations (2.28 – 2.33C) • Topic 2h - Chemical tests (2.44 – 2.50) • Topic 3a - Energetics (including practical 3.8) (3.1 – 3.8) • Topic 4f - Carboxylic acids (4.34C – 4.37C) • Topic 4h - Synthetic polymers (4.44 – 4.50C) Disclaimer: This document was created by department heads with many years of experience teaching the Pearson Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry course. We cannot however guarantee that it is an accurate representation of the Summer 2022 examinations and students should not treat it as such. Please use this as an aid, alongside other methods of revision.

Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry Lecture 18 - Atmospheric Gases

(0)
Powerpoint lecture covering the following in a modern, concise format: Specification Point 2.9 - Know the approximate percentages by volume of the four most abundant gases in dry air. Specification Point 2.10 - Understand how to determine the percentage by volume of oxygen in air using experiments involving the reactions of metals and non-metals with air. Specification Point 2.11 - Describe the combustion of elements in oxygen, including magnesium, hydrogen and sulphur. Specification Point 2.12 - Describe the formation of carbon dioxide from the thermal decomposition of metal carbonates, including copper (II) carbonate. Specification Point 2.13 - Know that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas and that increasing amounts in the atmosphere may contribute to climate change. Specification Point 2.14 - Practical: determine the approximate percentage by volume of oxygen in air using a metal or a non-metal. Complete set of Chapter 4 Lectures are available.

Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry Lecture 25 - Chemical Tests

(1)
Powerpoint lecture covering the following in a modern, concise format: Specification Point 2.44 - Describe tests for these gases: hydrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, ammonia and chlorine. Specification Point 2.45 - Describe how to carry out a flame test. Specification Point 2.46 - Know the colours formed in flame tests for the following cations: lithium, sodium, potassium, calcium and copper. Specification Point 2.47 - Describe tests for these cations: ammonium using sodium hydroxide solution and identifying the gas evolved. Copper, iron (II) and iron (III) using sodium hydroxide solution. Specification Point 2.48 - Describe tests for these anions: chloride, bromide and iodide using acidified silver nitrate solution. Sulphates using acidified barium chloride solution and carbonates using hydrochloric acid and identifying the gas evolved. Specification Point 2.49 - Describe a test for the presence of water using anhydrous copper (II) sulphate. Specification Point 2.50 - Describe a physical test to show whether a sample of water is pure. Complete set of Chapter 5 Lectures are available.
