Christmas creative writing lesson aimed at KS3 (can easily be adapted for any year group.) Differentiation using aim/challenge/super challenge and the GCSE mark scheme. Uses a clip from ‘The Snowman’ and asks students to use the ‘show don’t tell’ technique to describe the snowman coming to life.

A fun lesson introducing students to the language of Shakespeare. Includes a glossary for students to use to translate. Students translate Shakespearean words into modern English and vice versa. A Christmas Carol quiz consisting of 3 rounds and 40 questions. Aimed at GCSE students studying the text, to test their knowledge of the plot, characters and key quotations. Round 1 - A general knowledge of the book. Round 2 - The ghosts. Round 3 - Who said it.

2 x lessons on the topic of the death penalty. Sources from 19th century and modern day. Lesson 1 teaches question 5 and lesson 2 teaches question 1 and 4. Students discuss the typical features of a fairytale, watch clips from fairytales and from the TV show ‘Once Upon A Time.’ Students eventually write a story about a fairytale character in the real world. Main task asks students to create a piece of creative writing from the point of view of Buddy the Elf, experiencing New York City for the first time.
