This Tarsia puzzle covers the theme of Natural Hazards (tectonics, extreme weather, UK weather). Great for 9-1 GCSE revision and intervention sessions. Made for AQA but I'm sure it fits other exam board specs.
A Tarsia puzzle requires students to match up sides of triangles to form a hexagonal shape. They are brilliant for revision and get students to think hard. This lesson was designed for a high ability Y6 class who were exploring a topic on Rivers and Flooding. It would be suitable for KS3 students also. In this lesson students explore the key features of the upper, middle and lower course. You will need to print off a large versions of the powerpoint slides so that students can use them on their information hunt. My students really enjoyed this lesson. In this lesson students explore the landforms created by river processes. In particular, they explore meanders and oxbow lakes. This lesson was supported by the Geog 1 textbook but could be supported by another relevant geography textbook should you not have this. Students use pictures and information from a textbook to explore Benidorm. There is also a maths task which students could complete for cross-curricula links.
Students take a class vote to decide which tourist attraction is their favourite and produce a bar graph. I used some youtube clips to demonstrate certain places. Graph paper would help too!
