Comparing 'Rebecca' with the AQA Poetry Anthology

(0)
A worksheet style resource, which includes a table with detailed comparative analysis of Du Maurier’s ‘Rebecca’ with Blake’s ‘The Garden of Love’ and Keats’s ‘La Belle Dame Sans Merci’. The table is followed up with a task which prompts students to do the same thing with the remaining poems. (I’ve not included the two Hardy poems as I don’t think they’re great together, but you could differentiate by getting weaker students to just compare with one Hardy poem at a time in a similar fashion. Or, could be a homework/follow up task). The main detail is on Blake, Keats and the novel. References to AOs are specifically tailored to AQA A-level ENGLISH LITERATURE A (7712/1) Paper 1: Love through the Ages

Probably a 30-45minute task, depending on the enthusiasm of your class. A handy first lesson after the holidays lesson for key stage 2/3, or for days that celebrate books and reading as a one off lesson.

Rebecca Key Quotes and Themes

(0)
A 12 page selection of many of the key/interesting quotes from the novel. The pack includes two Word documents, one with the quotes in chronological order, the other with quotes grouped in themes. You could give this to students as a hand out, or as a cut and stick activity where they decide which themes the quotes belong to (many of them really belong to more than one category, but I've not duplicated them within categories to make the file more user-friendly). You could also just give students the quotes for a specific theme to aid them in essay writing, either as a starter or as the basis for an essay plan. If you like this resource, you might also like the display resource in my shop, which includes 16 of the quotes presented visually for display purposes.
