Investigation is carried out on the ratios of lengths of a right angled triangle. It is expected to observe the ratios are fixed. Hence, these fixed ratios are suggested to be given fancy names for the sake of communications - agreed conventional names(sine, cosine and tangent).

To remember the names of these ratios one may think bout them in this way:

In the case of sine and cosine, the hypotenuse is at the bottom of the fraction, and in the case of tangent the hypotenuse is not involved. Also in these three ratios the opposite is is always on top.

The detail of the definitions is to be found on on a worksheet provided. One problem of application is also given. Further practice work could be found in textbooks.
