Close Reading of Challenging Texts - full lesson for use in any subject

Close Reading of Challenging Texts - full lesson for use in any subject

This is a resource that I designed in my role as Literacy Coordinator and has been used successfully across all subjects in my current school. It is designed to explicitly teach and embed close reading skills. It is a complete lesson, however it can be taught again and again with any text. As a teacher, you will choose a challenging text containing information which you would like your students to understand. Through this lesson, students will work through a series of steps to help them to close read it and process the information in detail. I have used this many times as an English teacher for fiction and non-fiction texts, and teachers across the school have used it in their own subjects as a means to help students access complex information about their subject independently. The resource contains the Powerpoint for the lesson (including teacher guidance on how to choose the text), the handout (as a word document and as a pdf) and also some sample reading materials that I have used. Please contact me if you have any questions and I would also welcome feedback.
