GCSE Physics Structure Strips - Kinetic Theory and Density

GCSE Physics Structure Strips - Kinetic Theory and Density

As a teacher, one thing that I have always found is that students find extended answer questions either really easy or extremely difficult - there never seems to be a middle ground! To help, I have put some structure strips together for the GCSE physics course to support the students that really struggle with providing an extended answer. So far the feedback is that students love them as they really have helped these students become more independent in their study. There are 3 parts to this product: 1) The structure strips for 3 separate GCSE questions (one on density, one on changes of state and one on kinetic theory). These can be printed, cut and glued into students books (I have used pastel colours because of printing in black and white, but feel free to change this to liven it up!). 2) 2 copies of each of the questions with lines for students to write their answers on. Print these 2 to a page, and they can be glued next to the structure strips in an A4 book. 3) A WAGOLL (What A Good One Looks Like) with annotations to show students how they could further improve their answers if required. This can be used over a projector to show students, zooming in and moving around with a projector remote as a peer/self-assess exercise when marking answers. I have started putting this resource together for Atomic Structure and Radioactivity, and more will be in the pipework if people like them! Enjoy!

Academic essay writing

Academic essay writing

This is one of my favourite and successful lessons. I took the idea from an IELTS class and amended it for all of my students who need to write an academic essay. This could easily be used over a double lesson depending on how you want to approach it. You can get the students to write the whole essay, or better yet get them to write it a paragragh at a time, then show your corresponding paragraph. This lesson is a step by step approach to essay writing. First identify what type of essay the student is to write and then focus on the structure and coherence of the work: talk about transitions, grammar, spelling, cohesion etc. Then the 5 paragraphs of the essay are identified. Deliberate "mistakes" are included (e.g. introduction paragraph is weak) so students can hopefully identify mistakes in the essay. Finally an essay can be set as homework following on from what you have taught over 2 lessons.
