Escape Room activity - French Revolution

Escape Room activity - French Revolution

This was a very low tech escape room activity. I printed off slides 1 (key words), slides 4-7 for students (2 slides per page!). The locations are on the final slide. I hid the first code cracker under a beret on an unused desk, the next clue under a guillotine by our fire exit and the third (pair of codes) under a toy crown on my classroom shelves. As I didn’t have a suitable box I could padlock, I used a cardboard wallet, holepunched it and put the padlocks through the holes on there. I used one padlock with a 3 digit code (187 - slide 8 for the questions) and a key padlock. On the wallet, I wrote in French that they had to prove to me they had complete all activities. I gave prizes to the students to open the padlock first. I did this with an able Y10 group (small class) and it took virtually a double lesson (100 minutes). Please message me if you have any questions.

FRENCH BACK TO SCHOOL EUROPE POSTERS

FRENCH BACK TO SCHOOL EUROPE POSTERS

My students have always really enjoyed having these posters in the classroom - they’re ideal as a lively back to school decoration, and they’re really useful as an instant and comprehensive introduction to EUROPE! There are 72 posters (8.5 x 11) in FRENCH showing EUROPEAN countries, capital cities and flags. They give your classroom a great multicultural look and feel, at the same time promoting FRENCH as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of your - and your students’ - classroom. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters can help students develop their general knowledge and understanding of EUROPEAN GEOGRAPHY. I’ve included a range of islands, such as the FAROE ISLANDS, to extend students’ knowledge of EUROPE a little, and I’ve also shown some countries, for example ARMENIA, that are often classed as belonging either to EUROPE or to ASIA. I’ve also included two posters for some countries, such as FRANCE, officially known as RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE - you can choose either that, or the more frequently-used LA FRANCE to display. The posters look great displayed horizontally across a particular learning area - alphabetically works well, though non-alphabetically is perfect for a country quest activity! They’re ideal for the annual EUROPE DAY celebration, and THE EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES, as well as an all year round display. Laminate for longevity - you’ll be able to display the posters for years to come! I’ve classed the posters as suitable for age 11-18, as it really does depend on when your students began FRENCH, and what kinds of classroom decor is most useful for them at any particular time. The resource consists of a single, non-editable file; please read the TERMS OF USE carefully - the resource is copyright, and for single-classroom / teacher / purchaser use only. MERCI BEAUCOUP ET BON VOYAGE !

FRENCH CONVERSATION CARDS 1&2

FRENCH CONVERSATION CARDS 1&2

My students have always enjoyed and really benefited from these FRENCH conversation cards. They’re perfect for developing speaking skills - there are 200 question and answer cards and two reference booklets focusing on beginning/general conversation and cultural knowledge. They’re also great for multi-skill language learning - they give your students structured talk opportunities and will also get them listening, reading and writing. They’re ideal for independent learning, and perfect for pair and small-group work. These sets focus on beginning conversation, with a flavor of cultural and geographical knowledge. The prompt cards also feature language and structures that your students are likely to meet in the beginning and more intermediate stages of their FRENCH learning, including a range of tenses. The REFERENCE BOOKLETS include all the questions and answers written out in FRENCH. Students find these very useful learning support resources and they’re also handy whole-group pronunciation practice and reading-out loud resources. Students use the NOTES AND NEXT STEPS template to reflect on their learning, and think about what they might reasonably do to progress in their learning. The QUESTION AND ANSWER WRITING CARD TEMPLATES give students the opportunity to apply their FRENCH very practically, as they create both questions and answers for each other. This is a great team activity too. You can also use the cards for a whole range of games, and I’ve described how to play several you can start with. The resource consists of four non-editable files in a zipped format: SET 1 PROMPT CARDS with writing template and REFERENCE BOOKLET SET 2 PROMPT CARDS with writing template and REFERENCE BOOKLET The sets are also available individually if you prefer, each priced at $4.00.
