Je m'appelle - About me in French - Video + Worksheets

Billy the Dog describes himself in French in the 1st person present tense. He talks about his family, his friends, his character and interests + something he does not like. Friendly practice with a video clip for practice at home and three worksheets that can be self-checked by watching the video clip.

Translation Race - Description

Translation Race - Description

This activity can be used for either French or Spanish at KS3. Students are given 5 sentences in English on the topic of descriptions to translate into the target language in increasing difficulty. They must work in groups or pairs to translate them one at a time getting them checked by you and correcting as quickly as possible. Full instructions are included in the activity. This activity is fantastic for developing students writing and proof reading skills and for addressing common mistakes in an engaging fashion. Could be extended by asking students to pick a sentence and extending it as far as they can. Makes a good plenary task. Works well with the Studio 1 textbook, module 1.

Sur la photo il y a/ Basic photo description board game/Who do you see on the photo/year 7,8,9

Sur la photo il y a/ Basic photo description board game/Who do you see on the photo/year 7,8,9

This board game is differentiated, with support and stretch task on the second slide. The main aim is to practise vocabulary whilst playing. Student enjoy using the dice and say the sentence in French. The higher ability can say what they see and also describe clothing and appearance. I would recommend using foam dice which you could purchase online at a very low cost. Seeing that in their future French exam, students will be required to describe a photo for their speaking and writing task, it is essential that our KS3 classes start practising and building this skill. This will work nicely with any groups, I have tried it, they love it!

French – Describing People – Physical Descriptions & Characteristics.

French – Describing People – Physical Descriptions & Characteristics.

This is a set of resources to introduce describing others and oneself. There is a lengthy PowerPoint (79 slides) that goes through describing height, build, hair and eyes with reinforcement activities, match up activities, gap fills, translations and a reading comprehension. It then goes on to introduce 16 characteristics with listening activities, match ups, snake sentences and reading comprehensions. The final activity is the creation of a wanted poster for students to complete. There is an 8-page worksheet that accompanies the PowerPoint. These resources are enough for several lessons and start for the introduction through to pupils confidently using all of the new language, creating whole descriptions of themselves and others.
