Un groupe de musiciens. Year 7. Developing reading and translation skills.

Un groupe de musiciens. Year 7. Developing reading and translation skills.

I have designed this to support my year 7 in developing reading/ writing / translating skills. I started with the text ( pair work competition : each pupil has a different colour pen, the first to circle the translation in French in the text wins the point and it is quite visual at the end who is fastest . Great fro competition The other activities involve finding translations, matching up for lower ability and extending sentences from the given text. The last slide on the Power Point contains a writing list of bullet points ( goes with Studio 1 ’ il est hypercool’ but can be adapted for other courses. I owe Rachel Hawkes a big thank you for inspiring the Power Point slides offering differentiation when sentence building on mini whiteboards. I hope it is useful.

GCSE TRANSLATIONS ON 6 DIFFERENT TOPICS + 40 PHRASES TO PRACTISE TENSES

GCSE TRANSLATIONS ON 6 DIFFERENT TOPICS + 40 PHRASES TO PRACTISE TENSES

Attached are two worksheets to practise Translation ( English to French) for the New GCSE Exam. The first one is a series of 10 sentences on 6 different topics ( 60 sentences overall) . Topics include: Food & Health, Education, Environment, Education, Description,&Family, Hobbies, Holidays and Area. The second worksheet focuses on the major tenses( Present, Perfect, Imperfect, Near Future Future) and include a range of 40 sentences on various topics. These simple sentences are aimed at averagely motivated pupils, aiming for a 5 to 7 grade at GCSE, who would appreciate some “back to basics” . They are deliberately artificial in style, so as to practise the key structures. I would go through these in class, eliciting suggestions, then writing some parts on the board, leaving gaps for pupils to complete (depending on the skill of the class). Pupils could of course adapt the texts by rewriting them with their own details and you could get weaker students to underline verbs in advance, or identify and underline difficult vocabulary. These Word docs are fully editable, so teachers can adapt the sentences.

GCSE French student revision workbook (Week 1 - Friends, family, relationships and technology)

GCSE French student revision workbook (Week 1 - Friends, family, relationships and technology)

We gave this to our Year 10 students to provide structured revision support for their forthcoming mocks. We’ve found that our students need increasing amounts of support if they are to avoid the ‘staring at a book’ technique! This workbook provides daily exercises students must complete to revise actively and in time for the mocks. The plan is that they do these exercises at home, bringing in their booklets each week to show that they are actively engaging with their revision. Although we’re using Kerboodle’s assessment resources for Units 1 and 2, the language and skills are generic enough to suit all. As we’re doing the speaking mocks in June, this workbook contains activities that specifically target Listening, Reading and Writing. Although much of this would be relevant for Speaking, this skill is not addressed specifically . Subsequent workbooks will be added weekly and will cover Units 3-8 (free time, festivals, home and area, social issues, global issues and travel & tourism. In general terms, the workbook contains: Many translations out of and into French Match-ups to broaden vocabulary and develop problem-solving skills Real hand-holding on writing the 40-word essay Student-friendly adaptations of AQA’s 40-word essay criteria so they learn how to asses their own work Guidance on how to extend the 40-word essay to 90 words by adding detail and opinions Student-friendly versions of AQA’s 90-word essay criteria These are the instructions I give our reprographics colleague to turn it into a booklet : ‘Please print 30 A4 booklets (A3 paper folded to A4 and stapled)’

This means that students can write their initials on their square instead of using counters. The way the game is played can be manipulated. However, the main instructions are as follows (also included on sheet): Roll Two Die to Create a Co-ordinate. Place your coloured counter on the square that the roll corresponds to. If answer is correct, receive points as follows: Points: Red squares are worth 1, Yellow squares score 2 points, and Green squares score 5 points Grades: Red squares are 4/5 Grade, Yellow squares and 6/7 Grade and Green Squares and 8/9 Grade answers Please use a great revision resource for group work.
