This resource is for Year 7 French students. It covers units on Greetings, Family, Countries, nationalities, school subjects and hobbies. There are a variety of puzzles and exercises which include word searches, crosswords, gap filling exercises, jumbled up word exercises to help students remember the vocabulary which they have learnt in their first year of secondary education. There is also a short vocabulary list and a teacher’s answer book. This should be used during the year but is also very useful for revision purposes.

French Family (La Famille) Games

French Family (La Famille) Games

4 in a Row board game and card set, loop card ('follow me') set and Happy Families Game (Jeu des 7 Familles) for introducing and consolidating French Family / My Family (La Famille / Ma Famille) vocabulary. Suits Key Stage 2 (KS2) and early KS3 and equivalents. Available in a bundle with a lesson presentation, worksheets and puzzles: La Famille Bundle Includes the following family members: le frere (brother), la soeur (sister), le fils (son), la fille (daughter), le pere (father), la mere (mother), le bebe (baby), le grand-pere (grandfather), la grand-mere (grandmother), le beau-pere (stepfather), la belle-mere (stepmother), le demi-frere (stepbrother), la demie-soeur (stepsister), l’oncle (uncle), la tante (aunt), le cousin (male cousin), la cousine (female cousin) and les jumeaux (twins). 4 in a Row: Print word card sets on different coloured card or paper (or print the different coloured sets) for pairs / individuals to compete against each other, laying down a card of their colour on the correct person. Each of the family members appear twice on the board so children must think strategically to get 4 cards lined up in a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally) to win. Happy Families: Print cards in colour and laminate for regular use. There are 10 cards in each family set. Each family is a different colour, so pupils practise their French colours too. Choose perhaps 4 to 6 French family words to practise and put these cards (from all seven colour families) into play. Make players aware which ones are being used so they know which ones they must ask for to complete their sets. English and French word sets both included. Pupil instruction card included on the last page of the resource. Print in A3 or use the 2 A4 page version. Loop Cards / Follow Me Cards: 18 words appear in this continuous loop. Children can start at any point and could complete as a domino activity or orally as a group or whole class. Multiple sets could be printed on different coloured card for groups to race each other.
