Are you learning Irish Gaelic? Are you looking for a fun way to learn Irish Gaelic? I have developed a way to learn different languages based on my experience as an ESL teacher. This pack has 57 different settings for students to talk about in Irish Gaelic. The worksheets themselves are in English and the students do need to translate the places and objects they see into Irish Gaelic. Alternatively use the activity attached also. I use these as a game first to introduce the vocabulary to my students. They are placed around my room and students are given a list of St. Patrick's Day vocabulary in English. They then have to find the Irish equivalent. Writing a 'Post Card' in Irish is an integral part of the Junior Certificate (GCSE) exam. This PowerPoint contains absolutely everything a student needs in order to be able to answer that question and obtain full marks. The ppt. is divided into sections with all possible variables that could be asked for catered for. There is a translation exercise at the end to check for learning and also two examples of past exam papers done for the students. All the necessary resources you need to have fun teaching about Christmas in Irish.

This resource contains three resources for a lesson in Irish. The first is a Bingo game, using Christmas vocabulary (See my display resource for that vocabulary) The second is a puzzle where students need to orientate themselves through a puzzle. This can be done using directions. (One person is blind folded and they must direct their partner around the puzzle) Or this resource can be used as a simple starter. The third resource is a word search. Each activity focuses oral skills and new vocabulary. It's a lovely way to finish the term off and also a way to keep students engaged in their final lesson.

This is a list of questions I have compiled for both my Junior & Leaving Certificate students for the Oral Exam. As an examiner I have used these questions and it helps focus students learning for their exam. At the beginning is a list of phrases they can use to increase their fluency levels, sound more fluent and natural in their speech, all while thinking of an answer! It is very much geared towards Leaving Cert Ordinary level but I have also asked all to Higher Level students as well! There is over 100 basic questions that cover a wide range of topics.

There are lots of ways of using this teaching pack. It could be used as writing assessment for students learning Irish Gaelic. The students could write about a topic in Irish Gaelic before starting a unit, and then write again about the topic, using the second worksheet at the end of the topic to see how much they have progressed. It could also be used as an introduction to guided writing. Students can write sentences as a class and share the sentences together and they can then write them on their own. Alternatively, students could work in pairs - one student dictates to the other what to write down about what they see in the picture.
