I read 'Aquila' by Ian Norriss with my Year 5 class and they loved it! While looking at explanation texts, I created these templates for the children to explain how they would operate their very own UFO. The children were very creative and loved this lesson.

WHAT ANIMAL IS IT? ANSWER THE ENIGMA!

WHAT ANIMAL IS IT? ANSWER THE ENIGMA!

This PowerPoint consists of enigmas about animals. It's for primary level pupils who learn English as a second language. It practises and revises animal vocabulary, colours, adjectives like small/big, tall/short etc.,and verbs such as like and can. The PowerPoint can be used as a team game. The class can be divided into two teams, each team getting a point for each correct answer. The winning team is the one with the most points. Another suggestion is to use this PowerPoint as a sample and have the students write their own enigmas or their descriptions of their pets or favourite animals.

Three Little Pigs - L3 - Stereotypes and Letter to the Editor

Three Little Pigs - L3 - Stereotypes and Letter to the Editor

Building on the previous two lessons, lesson three aims to have students define and identify stereotypes. With this keyword in mind, students compose a scaffolded letter to an editor of a newspaper. I usually buy some newspapers the week of these lessons. Photocopying an article and a letter responding to these is a worthwhile activity in the lead up to this lesson. Students usually read the article/letter to the editor in groups. If these lessons have worked for you in the classroom, then please leave a review in the comments section below. It's always great to hear how a group progresses with these activities!
