AQA Trilogy Quantitative Chemistry

AQA Trilogy Quantitative Chemistry

Covers the AQA Chemistry (Trilogy) specification for Quantitative chemistry. Concentrates on calculations. It includes practice slides throughout the presentation so that the students can practice each calculation as you go through each type. Covers: Ar / Mr / RFM / % mass of an element or compound / Number of moles / Conservation of mass and why the mass actually changes during some reactions / thermal decomposition / how to use moles to calculate mass / how to calculate Empirical formula / limiting reactions and how to calculate concentrations of solutions. After completing the presentation and trial questions there is a revision sheet. For higher groups I actually removed the examples and got them to make the revision card. For those struggling I gave the revision sheet as it is.

Ions and ionic bonding multiple choice quiz on a powerpoint presentation

Ions and ionic bonding multiple choice quiz on a powerpoint presentation

This is a quiz on ions and ionic and has 15 multiple choice questions. It was written for year 9 double science GCSE students. There is 1 question per page and the students have 20 seconds to read the question and choose from 3 answers before the page automatically turns. There is a countdown to every page turn. I created these quizzes as a fun way to reinforce main points covered in the topic so far. I had a particularly lively group and wanted to settle them down quickly at the start of the lesson and found that this worked really well. They sit in silence for the 300 seconds of the 15 question run. I usually then choose names randomly to answer each question. It provides a good opportunity to discuss main points and clarify any misunderstandings. The questions may be a little too simple for top set groups, but it could confirm their understanding; which is always useful.

AQA GCSE: Trilogy Chemistry Relay Cards (with answers)

AQA GCSE: Trilogy Chemistry Relay Cards (with answers)

20 questions covering a range of content from the chemistry GCSE Trilogy specification. Answers are short and sweet, and is ideal for revision or fun game recapping content. Students get very competitive! I would advise printing in colour and laminating so they can be used multiple times. I would suggest marking on the back though so you know which pack each card belongs too. I have provided answers to all questions. On some questions there are more challenging BONUS questions that you can allocate extra points for. I usually have a prize for the first group to finish, and then one for those with the highest number of points. Students cannot move onto the next question until they have given you the right answer. I usually think 4 per team is ideal for this. If there are any mistakes please let me know, and I would really appreciate if you could take the time to review. Thanks :)

Detecting gases

Detecting gases

An engaging lesson presentation (37 slides) which gets students to test their practical skills by carrying out the four identification tests for oxygen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide and chlorine. The lesson begins by using a competition called “Guess the gas” where students have to used clues to identify the four colourless gases which will be used in the lesson. Moving forwards, students will meet the pieces of equipment that will be used in these tests. Practical instructions for each of the tests are included in the lesson so that students can produce the gas and then carry out the test. There are regular progress checks throughout the lesson so that students can assess their understanding. This lesson is suitable for both KS3 and GCSE students
