I currently teach IGCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Also A level Biology. The resources I produce for my lessons are carefully planned and I try to involve a lot of self-learning to allow students to develop these important skills needed for further education.

A PDF worksheet of a dichotomous key to identify invertebrates. This can be used as an independent learning task where students can work through the clues in the key.
Answer sheet included.
I have produced a website for year 12 students to support their studies as they prepare for the unit 3 exam. The website will be supplied on a word document and can be shared with allof your students. Any updates to the course over time will be updated on the website.
The website includes video support for each experiment
Exam-style questions for each core practical
A summary of previous core practicals examined from 2019-2022
Help students prepare their revision for the topic of nutrition. The questions cover both plants and animal nutrition including core practicals (Edexcel).
I print the document on A3 paper and it takes around 45 - 50 minutes for able students to complete. I allow the task to be an open book activity in preparation for an exam.
A power point presentation introducing the concept that pathogens are constantly evolving against treatments we have.
Students discuss how HIV and TB have managed to evade detection by the immune system
Article about people who have protection against the HIV virus (CCR5 gene) with questions.
Exam questions
A series of revision mats to compliment the IGCSE edexcel syllabus. Each revision mat consists of examination style questions to challenge knowledge and understanding.
For best results, I photocopy onto A3 paper.
Can be used to complete a topic or revision for test/exams.
A lesson introducing the reactions for the build up and break down of ATP in cells including its uses and why it is the universal energy currency of a cell.
I have also included 3 exam questions to test students knowledge. Mark scheme included.
A PDF worksheet which focuses on the 3 types of neurones and Schwann cell structure. Students label the cells and complete a cloze exercise. There is also a vocabulary enhancer for students to define keywords.
Answer sheet included.
A level Biology topic focusing on gene technology.
This unit includes:
the principles of genetic technology
the tools and techniques available to the genetic engineer
explaining the use of microarrays
outline the use of bioinformatics in sequencing genomes
describe examples of the uses of genetic technology in medicine and agriculture
Pros and Cons of GMO
In this unit includes powerpoint lessons, worksheets, videos and discussion/debate tasks.
The unit contains 4 lessons but this can be increased if you would like more time on a particular aspect e.g. debate.
18 longer response exam questions.
This document can be modified and the order of questions can be changed or removed.
The total time for this document is 155 minutes.
Mark scheme is included.
I have used this document as a timed revision exercise but the document can be used as a summative exam.
Topics included:
Heart structure and function
Blood vessels
Circulatory system
Blood components including the role of the blood cells
The questions test both knowledge and application of knowledge.
A PDF worksheet with focused questions on determining the time of death of a body.
This focuses on factors that affect body temperature and the use of rigor mortis and entomology to determine the time of death.
I have included my answer sheet for guidance.
We have started using this technique in our science department to allow students to highlight areas where they make mistakes. This could be due to misreading questions; not understanding the material; not understanding the questions; calculation questions or not using correct terminology. Once our students were aware of where the mistakes were being made, we gave them focused targets and it has helped improve their performance.
2 lessons focusing on Edexcel specification link 2.7
The first lesson is an introduction to enzymes and naming enzymes
The second lesson focuses on how they work and factors which affect the rate of reaction.
A level Biology - Control of the Internal Environment
4 Powerpoint lessons covering:
The principles of mammalian hormone production by endocrine glands
The mode of action of hormones
The production of metabolic waste
Osmoregulation
Kidney structure and function
Urea production
Thermoregulation
Edexcel specification link 6.5 (i) (ii)
Two power point complete lessons focusing on the structure of viruses and bacteria. The second lesson looks at the lytic and lysogenic cycles with a short video clip on retrovirus reproduction - this will be looked at again when we study HIV.
The lesson includes an exam question with mark scheme.
An activity to introduce the main elements of the transport topic or to be used as a revision tool. I have used it in class but it can be used for home schooling assignment or homework.
The activity took my students over an hour. There are many tasks the students must complete as they collect their clues.
Students need access to the internet to carry out this activity.
A useful revision tool for students preparing for the Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry exam Summer 2022.
The 14 paged booklet includes the specification points for students to plan their revision plus details of core practicals they could be tested on.
There are also a large range of revision questions to test student knowledge.
Great for class revision or homework.
Supports students with revision on specific topics.
Photosynthesis Topic with complete PowerPoint lessons and worksheets including lab activities. Each lesson involves a range of activities to promote interest and learning of the material.
The content covers the following points:
The word equation and the balanced chemical symbol equation for photosynthesis
Understand how varying carbon dioxide concentration, light intensity and temperature affect the rate of photosynthesis
Describe the structure of the leaf and explain how it is adapted for photosynthesis
Understand that plants require mineral ions for growth, and that magnesium ions are needed for chlorophyll and nitrate ions are needed for amino acids
Practical: investigate photosynthesis, showing the evolution of oxygen from a water plant, the production of starch and the requirements of light, carbon dioxide and chlorophyll
Practical activity - Investigating the changes in the population of a plant species along an environmental gradient. Transect samples are taken systematically in a linear pattern. In this investigation, you will use an interrupted belt transect to investigate the effect of the increase in height (altitude on a hill).
Students record their results in the table and plot a scatter graph. A conclusion can then be drawn using their results.
