FRENCH PERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE

KS3 KS4 GCSE FRENCH VERBS PERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE FOCUS ON 25 HIGH-FREQUENCY REGULAR & IRREGULAR FRENCH VERBS My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. There are 150 conjugations across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges, with full answer key. I use these kinds of workbooks in lots of different ways: for practice during the introduction phase, for independent choice in class time, for homework, for practice and revision during holidays and at return to class, and for cover lessons - they’re really versatile, and ideal for advanced KS3 French and KS4 French students who are beginning to work with more complex language and texts. The workbooks focus on the mechanics of conjugation, rather than usage, and I’ve found that when my students are able to provide the correct conjugation very quickly, and out of a specific context, they feel really confident that their conjugation skills are developing well. The resource is structured as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in French. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding French verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. Notes and Next Steps template which students visit regularly - it really does encourage them to think about where they are now, how confident they feel, and what they might need to work on a little more to be absolutely sure of their conjugation skills. answer key Have a browse in my store for more French grammar activities, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning materials, with special offer bundles and lots of freebies too! FRENCH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES POSTERS FLASHCARDS

(4)
FRENCH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES LA FRANCOPHONIE LES PAYS FRANCOPHONES My students really enjoy seeing the scope of the Francophone world - these posters create an instant introduction to it, and give the learning environment a great French look and feel. At the same time, they promote French as a living language, spoken widely across the world, and featuring in the everyday life of the learning environment. I’ve included countries or regions where a significant number of the population speak French as either their first or second language, such as Viet Nam. Each poster shows the continent, country and capital city in French, and its national flag. Introducing and practicing language with flashcards is a really successful directed teaching and learning activity, and these are the ideal size for use as both learning flashcards and all year-round learning display posters. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the word wall definitely helps them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Les pays francophones - students are often genuinely amazed at the scope of the French-speaking world - French is spoken on every continent! I’ve used the definite article, as I’ve found that this helps embed the concept of gender in French, and that proper nouns, such as countries, are subject to gender agreement rules too. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag or black wave. In total, there are 80 posters / flashcards - 40 with French flag background, and 40 with black wave background. Laminate the posters if you can - they are easier to hang for display, or to use as flashcards for introducing language, and they will last for absolutely years. EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES QUIZ #1

(0)
EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES QUIZ IDEAL TEAM OR CLASS QUIZ FOR THE EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES - AND AS A YEAR-ROUND GENERAL KNOWLEDGE QUIZ! The quiz features 100 multiple-choice questions, each with four possible responses. It’s perfect for developing students’ awareness, understanding and knowledge of all things European. The questions range from basic general knowledge to more specialised factual knowledge. The themes and topics are: = arts & culture = famous people = food = geography = history = landmarks & monuments = language = literature = music; = politics = science = society. You can be Quiz Question Captain, but students do enjoy taking on that role in turns. The questions often stimulate further and deeper discussion about particular themes and topics - for example, the question regarding Eyjafjallajökull is a great example of a ‘modern-day’ volcano eruption, and the implications for both national and international communities, particularly following the recent eruption of Cumbre Vieja on La Palma, one of the Spanish Canary Islands. I often prompt students for additional responses based on the answer options - for example The longest river in Europe, the Volga, runs through which countries? Which countries does the Danube or the Rhine run through? and so on. I always award extra points for this, which increases the competitive edge a little! The quiz is non-editable for copyright reasons. The first slide shows a map of Europe, which I use to discuss general geography and the range of European countries, some of which students may not be aware of. Each question slide is followed by a corresponding answer slide, with the correct response in capital letters. The quiz is ideal for whole-group or team quizzes, with students choosing a European-themed team name. Play in homeroom / form time or in any subject area lesson as a brain-break - the questions really are cross-curricular! I use the quiz several times at intervals across the school year - this really does put students’ memory and developing knowledge to the test. The quiz goes down particularly well on the European Day of Languages, and at key points in the school year: end of year, back to school, Christmas and so on. Try this free sampler: EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES QUIZ SAMPLER https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/european-day-of-languages-quiz-1-sampler-12578850 Please note this is an updated European Day of Languages version of from my General Knowledge Quiz collection - please ensure you have not already purchased that quiz, as you can download that updated version from your downloads tab. GCSE FRENCH KS4 FRENCH KS3 FRENCH FRENCH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES ACTIVITIES LES PAYS FRANCOPHONES Files are non-editable in a zipped format. They are copyright, all rights reserved. They may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. Mots cachés are a fabulous way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in French, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches with answer keys, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. It focuses on 40 countries / territories where French is an official language. The word searches help students develop their knowledge and awareness of the Francophone world, and just how widely it is spoken around the globe. I’ve used the definite article for the countries, so that students can see which countries are masculine, and which feminine, which in turn helps consolidate knowledge of gender in French. In Grids 1-4, students search for a particular country. In Grids 5 & 6, they search for a range of capital cities. Grid 7 gives 16 capital cities as prompts, and students search for the corresponding countries in the grid. Similarly, in Grid 8, there are 16 countries given, and students search for the corresponding capital cities in the grid. Grids 9 & 10 show a selection of national flags, and students search for the corresponding countries in the grid, and also write the country name in the prompt box next to the individual flag. There is a single grid per page, A4 (8.5 x 11) portrait format. Students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. Each grid has a corresponding answer key, so that students can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. There is also a complete reference sheet of all 40 countries, capital cities and flags - you can either laminate this to share around small groups of students, or give one to each student to stick into their learning workbooks as a general longer-term reference resource. The word searches work well across the school year, not only when you’re focusing on la Francophonie. Use them as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers quite regularly - this really does help embed students’ learning, and they genuinely enjoy putting their memory to the test. KS3 SPANISH SPEAKING SKILLS KS4 SPANISH SPEAKING SKILLS BEGINNER SPANISH CONVERSATION STARTERS Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. This set of Spanish conversation starters features 100 starters in question format, suitable for KS3 Spanish to KS4 Spanish students. Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning. The questions focus largely on the present tense, with some examples of tenses such as preterite and conditional. I like to include tenses we may not have formally covered, as the activity is not solely about practising language, but also about actively learning it. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning. Questions formats are varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in Spanish. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. I remind students that it is not necessary to tell the truth - the purpose is to create and produce accurate and realistic language. Students can prepare their responses in as much detail as possible on the accompanying planning sheet, remembering that these are conversation starters, so that once they have responded, they should then say something to keep the conversation going. The cards work particularly well as ice-breakers at the beginning of the school year. They’re also great as both entrance and exit tickets, and also for five-minute refreshers, which I use quite frequently during the school year. In the preparation phase, having access to bilingual dictionaries and / or the internet, this can be really helpful. These tools can help them prepare detailed responses to questions in ways that do not necessarily always focus on their own life and experiences. The starters broadly address the following themes: personal information family & routines at home hobbies & free time likes & dislikes local environment food & drink school & studies sport & healthy living countries & languages weather & seasons ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN APRENDIZAJE!

GERMAN REGULAR VERBS FUTURE TENSE

(0)
GCSE GERMAN KSS3 GERMAN KS4 GERMAN FUTURE TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency regular German verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for advanced KS3 German students who are beginning to work with compound sentences and longer texts, and generally developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation and tense in German. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. I tend to introduce the future tense along with the conditional tense, as I’ve found this can help students consolidate the pattern of conjugation very quickly, and it also helps them understand the distinction between will and would, particularly the fine distinction between the notion of intent in both German and English. Though the workbook focuses solely on the correct conjugation of verbs, and does not look at word order in the context of full sentences, there are fixed conjugation patterns that students can learn, recognise and apply, ensuring that their spoken and written German is accurate, and that their understanding of German across the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing is robust. The resource has the following structure: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. FRENCH VERBS FOR GCSE #1

FRENCH VERBS FOR GCSE #1

(2)
GCSE FRENCH KS3 FRENCH KS4 FRENCH VERBS 500 high-frequency French verbs, listed alphabetically both French-English and English-French - a great learning support resource for KS4 French moving into advanced French learners, and can also be given to advanced KS3 French students, providing a language road map with learning goals, outlining the verbs they should ideally know by a specific stage in their learning. There are 42 pages in the book, and all 500 verbs are listed alphabetically French-English and English-French. Verbs that are conjugated with the auxiliary être verb are indicated by (être) following the particular verb. I use the reference book for quick vocabulary quizzes too - either I or a nominated student shouts out a French or English verb, with teams giving the corresponding French or English verb - I’ve found this is a really successful way of avoiding more formal vocabulary tests, while still providing students with frequent opportunity to refresh and embed essential French vocabulary. The books are ideal for***KS4 French*** students, and as a refresher and verb audit for those moving into advanced level A Level French. For UK teachers, these are roughly GCSE / Standard / age 16 examinations moving into advanced level, all examination boards (AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas, SQA). We use the Notes and Next Steps template to think about progress and vocabulary knowledge. Students find this really useful, and do like to map and track their own progress. It can be helpful in guiding and informing whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really useful learning activity too - students also note down any new French verbs they learn, enabling them to build a really comprehensive verb vocabulary reference resource. The verbs are useful for engaging with the following topics and themes: youth, identity & lifestyle fashion culture, customs and traditions relationships and family technology and social media sport, health and fitness France and French-speaking countries free time, hobbies and interests entertainment and leisure food and drink local, national & international global areas of interest transport holidays, tourism and travel environment, pollution, recycling and climate social issues school, college, current and future study work experience, skills and personal qualities employment, ambitions and career plans The product is non-editable in a zipped format. GERMAN TELLING TIME I HAVE, WHO HAS GAMES #1

(1)
KS3 GERMAN KS4 TELLING TIME O’CLOCK, HALF PAST, QUARTER TO AND QUARTER PAST THE HOUR - TWO GAMES, TWO DIFFERENTIATED CHALLENGES! I HAVE, WHO HAS? is a lively & communicative whole-group language learning game. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing how to tell the time in GERMAN. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. Half past the hour can be really tricky for beginner German learners, and these kinds of games really help to embed it. The aim of the game is to arrange the clocks in the correct order, starting with the first card, Es ist ein Uhr/Es ist acht Uhr, and ending with the last card Es ist viertel vor zwölf / Es ist viertel nach zwölf. Students can either create a human chain timeline, holding the cards themselves, or a card timeline, on the floor, a longish table or other flat surface. There are two games and two challenges: CHALLENGE 1 with the clock times in numerical order, and the Q & A Ich habe… Hast du…? CHALLENGE 2 with the clock times in topsy-turvy order, and the Q & A Hast du… Ja, ich habe… . This really encourages students to focus on their GERMAN clock times! Students can identify the particular challenge by the colour of the card - the font is also different, so printing is B&W is absolutely fine too. Play either as a whole-group game, or as a team game - which team can complete the challenge first? You can either play the challenges consecutively, or as a team game, swapping the challenges so that each team has a chance to play both challenges. This set features analogue clock times, 1-12, including midday and midnight, with o’clock, half past, a quarter to and a quarter past the hour. There are four cards with eight clock faces per page, which I’ve found to be the ideal size for students learning to tell the time, and with the multi-skill practice the games facilitate. The resource itself consists of a single, non-editable file. Please read the TERMS OF USE carefully - this resource is copyright, all rights reserved. (3)
GCSE GERMAN KS3 GERMAN KS4 GERMAN PERFECT TENSE 25 high-frequency irregular & mixed German verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated conjugation challenges, answer key & verbs lists, ideal for advanced KS3 German and KS4 German students who are developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation in German, working with notion of past tense in German, and distinguishing between verbs that are conjugated with either haben or sein in the perfect tense. The workbook is a great way of practising, reinforcing and revising how to conjugate essential verbs in German. It works well in a range of contexts such as independent work either in class time or at home, holiday refresher work, or individual activities for cover lessons. Students really benefit from several opportunities to work through the workbook, once or twice a term across a whole school year is a great way of both mapping progress and developing overall understanding and competence, and my students tell me they feel really confident about their conjugation skills when they are able to produce the correct conjugation accurately without a specific context. The resource has the following structure: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. PRIMARY SPANISH FACTS ABOUT SPAIN 1

(2)
PRIMARY SPANISH YEAR 7 SPAIN COUNTRY FACTS & ACTIVITIES really do help to create a lively language learning environment for young learners of Spanish, and offer a popular alternative to more traditional, teacher-led ’information about Spain’ lessons. Children can develop their knowledge of the Hispanic world - and through guided whole-group discussion - their home / host country too, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, in part independently of the teacher. There is a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling, and is a great way of aligning language learning with developing literacy skills in English. The resource comprises the following non-editable files: * 20 facts cards - there are four facts in each of the following topic groups: geography, country, landmarks, language and food. There are blank templates for children to research and create their own facts cards for each other. * Facts recording sheet challenge level 1 - there are two options: either two or four fact recording boxes per page. Children read their selected facts, and copy the information in the boxes. * Facts recording sheet challenge level 2 - there are also two options: two or four fact recording boxes in this challenge level. However, there is a more open-ended task: responding to the question “What did you learn?”. This requires children to read their fact card, process the information, and then recreate it in their own words, describing the fact in the context of what they have learned. * 28 question / comprehension cards — the questions have a differentiated range of challenge, and are based on the knowledge developed through the whole-group presentation and discussion, and the facts cards. There is one ’independent research’ question, which I use as a springboard for further discussion based on children’s own developing interests about Spain. There are blank templates here too - creating questions is a great way to think about and apply knowledge and learning. * question / comprehension cards recording sheet * whole-group facts presentation & discussion Files are non-editable in a zipped format. GERMAN PERFECT TENSE WITH SEIN

(3)
GCSE GERMAN KS3 CONJUGATION TAKING THE AUXILIARY SEIN IN THE PERFECT TENSE 3 differentiated conjugation challenges, 150 quick conjugations and answer key focusing on 25 verbs taking sein in the perfect tense. The workbook focuses on the mechanics of conjugation, rather than usage, and I’ve found that when my students are able to provide the correct conjugation very quickly, and out of a specific context, they feel really confident that their German conjugation skills are developing well. I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example with the perfect tense, students need to have a good grasp of the relevant auxiliary in the present tense - there are verbs that require either haben or sein, so the focus on the auxiliary sein with this workbook helps to embed this concept, and to get used to ensuring that the past participle is situated at the end of the clause or sentence. Forming the past participle of a whole range of verb groups follows a certain pattern, which students are able to identify and predict the more they work with conjugation, and these quick conjugations will certainly help to embed that successfully. The format is as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Quick Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Quick Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in German. Quick Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. Notes and Next Steps sheet, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of German conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. answer key Try this free quick conjugation sampler to see if it’s the kind of learning activity that will work well for your students: GERMAN QUICK CONJUGATION SAMPLER https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-conjugation-practice-sampler-12154187 Have a browse in my store for more German grammar activities, and a wide range of German teaching and learning resources, with lots of freebies too The product is non-editable in a zipped format. PRIMARY LATIN ANIMALS BINGO

(1)
PRIMARY LATIN AND YEAR 7 LATIN Latin animals bingo games: an ideal activity for developing listening, speaking, reading and writing/spelling skills. It’s also really useful for a focus on the general ‘absence’ of article in Latin, as well as gender. The pack includes 21 non-editable files: ONE & TWO: 40 picture-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). You can give students a random selection of pages, with students selecting the order of grids they play from. You can also cut out the grids, and place them in a small bowl or similar object on tables. Students select grids randomly from the bowl. Depending on the size of your class, you should have several winners per game! You might prefer to laminate the grids, especially if you are printing in color - students can use wipe-clean pens, and you can recycle the grids many times. Color and B&W. THREE: 40 LATIN word-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). FOUR: 40 English word-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES COUNTRIES AND FLAGS I HAVE, WHO HAS? GAME - great for any time of the school year, and particularly in celebration of The European Days of Languages and Europe Day! All my students, regardless of age, love this game - it’s whole-group, lively & communicative - the repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the flags, makes it perfect for learning the countries of Europe and their flags. The aim of the game is to make an alphabetical country line as quickly as possible, starting with the first card, Albania, and ending with the final card, Wales. Students will probably have several cards each, depending on the size of your group. I tend to play with a timer, as that adds a little edge to the game - I also like to play in teams too, for which we use several sets of cards. We start of with a rapid whole-group warm-up, asking simple questions such as How many European countries can you name in 15 seconds? and so on. Laminate the cards, as they’re far sturdier, and easier to work with, and will last for absolutely years! There are four cards per A4 (8.5x11) landscape format page - great size for everyone to see the words and flags really clearly. EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES BUNTING

(0)
EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES Create an instant introduction to Europe and brighten up your learning environment with this bunting showing European countries, capital cities and flags, giving your classroom a great multicultural look and feel. It’s an ideal display for the annual* European Day of Languages and Europe Day festivals*, and great as a year-round display resource. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the bunting does help students develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Europe and its geography. I’ve also included a range of islands, such as the Faroe Islands, to extend students’ knowledge of Europe a little further, as well as several countries, for example Armenia, that are often classed as belonging either to Europe or to Asia. Each bunting banner has a small tag which I use to hang with a clip from a ‘washing line’ across the classroom and other learning areas - alphabetically works well, though non-alphabetically is perfect for a country quest activity! Laminate if you can - there’s a lot of prep, and certainly the bunting will use a lot of ink, but laminated the bunting will last for ever! PRIMARY FRENCH ANIMALS BINGO

PRIMARY FRENCH ANIMALS BINGO 120 DIFFERENTIATED BINGO GRIDS WITH SILENT BINGO CALLING - IDEAL FOR HIGH SCHOOL BEGINNER FRENCH TOO! I created these differentiated Primary French animals bingo games, building in a range of challenges, to help my students engage happily with their French. They work just as well with older learners too! They really enjoy playing games, and these bingo games are perfect for developing listening, speaking, reading and writing/spelling skills. They’re also really useful for a focus on definite article and gender. The game isn’t actually about learning all the animals - 20 is too many in ‘one go’ - select your core vocab, with the additional animals useful for quick recall practice. There are 20 animals: the mouse the horse the dog the cat the crocodile the bird the fish the frog the pig the cow the tortoise/turtle the tiger the elephant the giraffe the lion the rabbit the monkey the chicken the spider the zebra There are 21 non-editable files: 40 picture-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages), in both colour and B&W. There are also 40 French word-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). For additional challenge there are 40 English word-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages) - this is a great way of consolidating vocab too. My students like to create their own word or picture grids for each other, so I’ve also included 4 12-square grid templates. I developed SILENT BINGO to provide my students with an alternative way of practising their vocab and general language skills - select a grid type for students - picture-only, French word or English word. Using the SILENT BINGO files, show each slide at varying speeds. Students cross off the corresponding word or picture. There are 5 different games of each type: picture-only, French words, English words. GERMAN SPEAKING PRACTICE 2

KS4 GERMAN GCSE SPEAKING PROMPTS GERMAN CONVERSATION These German speaking practice cards are really popular with my students. There are 50 questions, with 50 suggested responses, and students can work their way through them at their own pace. I’ve found them to be very successful in terms of helping my students develop the confidence to speak German, which many try to avoid at all costs! As they become more proficient and confident, they can move away from the suggested questions and answers, and begin to formulate their own, using the existing cards as a reference frame - I give them a card template for this, and I’ve included one here too. There are quite a few games students can play, and I’ve described some of my most popular. I always laminate my cards - they last for years, and are definitely easier to work with in the classroom. The language is more Intermediate KS3 into KS4 German, and definitely with a real cultural flavour. I give my students regular opportunities to work with the cards, and they really enjoy working independently. I’ve written all the questions and answers in the reference booklet - we use this for a longer-term reading and writing reference resource too. Try this freebie - it will give you a good idea of the kind of language focus, and how you can use the cards with your pupils: GERMAN SPEAKING PRACTICE FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-speaking-practice-freebie-12534021 Have a browse in my store for more German active learning resources, with a wide range of other German language teaching and learning materials, and lots of freebies too! GERMAN REFLEXIVE VERBS PRESENT TENSE

(1)
GCSE GERMAN KS3 GERMAN KS4 GERMAN REFLEXIVE VERBS PRESENT TENSE 25 high-frequency German reflexive verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for KS3 German KS4 German students who are beginning to work with compound sentences and longer texts, and generally developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation and tense in German. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The workbook focuses on the correct conjugation of verbs, rather than usage, but I definitely find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, with the German present tense, I encourage students to look for patterns across all the verbs, such as the singular pronouns, including the pronoun man form being identical, pointing out also that man is commonly used in German, often also meaning we, unlike the pronoun one in English. Students do often try to conflate what they know about conjugation, and I frequently see attempts such as ich bin mich waschen for I am getting washed or similarly***ich mache / tue mich erinnern*** for I do remember. The workbook comprises the following: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in German. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. Notes & Next Steps template, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of German conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. answer key Try this free sampler: GERMAN CONJUGATION PRACTICE SAMPLER https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-conjugation-practice-example-12154187 This resource consists of non-editable files in a zipped format.
