Pay it Forward

(1)
One of my favourite films is called “Pay It Forward” (http://gb.imdb.com/title/tt0223897/). This resource is based on the film. There is a young boy who decides to make the world a better place, he completes three good deeds to three different people, and when these people want to thank him he asks them to complete three good deeds to three people and pay it forward. Therefore this resource is designed on that concept except that I have put in a time limit, the deeds are all completed in one day. From that the pupils could work out a general rule and then calculate the number of days it takes a set amount of people to have completed a good deed, or, the numbers of people after a certain amount of days. This incorporates geometric sequences.
Negative Numbers

Negative Numbers

This resource is designed to check students understanding with negative numbers. Some of the answers are incorrect and the students need to find where they are. Once they find them, they need to write why they think it is incorrect and how they would fix it.

Just a small resource highlighting the properties of prime numbers and multiplication. To make it easier you could input a few numbers in the circles and ask the pupil to complete the others.
Introducing Venn Diagrams

Introducing Venn Diagrams

(1)
A resource designed to introduce venn diagrams to students without using numbers. This could be modified to different food objects etc. You could also partially fill the diagram and ask students to complete the diagram, or you put an ingredient in the wrong place and ask the students to correct it.

Complements of 100

Continuing with addition and subtraction I have created this resource again designed to get the students to think more. The fourth empty grid is for students to create their own.
Match Fractions

Match Fractions

(2)
This resource could be used as a starter to get students to think. The students are asked to match the fraction to the image, answers are provided.

This is designed to test pupils knowledge of words associated with a particular topic, for this I have used number properties. This could be adapted to other topics and used as an end of unit plenary.
Percentages in the news

Percentages in the news

This resource takes six articles from the Guardian newspaper which involve percentages. The student is asked to match the percentage to the decimal equivalent.
Equivalent Fractions

Equivalent Fractions

(1)
This resource is designed for pupils to find equivalent fractions. I have purposefully not put, "rearrange these fractions so that each row is equivalent", as I want the students to be able to find the relationship themselves.

HCF Visual

A resource showing one way of how to calculate the highest common factor between two numbers.
Number Properties Two Way Table

Number Properties Two Way Table

(1)
Continuing to work on the number section, I have created a few tables that test pupils knowledge of number properties. They have to first of all complete a table, then they have to find a number that is incorrect, then they have to put the categories in, then they can create their own and finally they have to explain why the final table cannot happen.
Crossover with Area, Perimeter, Mode and Median

Crossover with Area, Perimeter, Mode and Median

(0)
For Wednesday’s problem we merge together area, perimeter with mode and median. The student has to calculate the mode and median of cards containing shapes. Students are then given the mode and median of a group of cards and the student has to identify which cards are chosen. Plenty of practise throughout the worksheet of area and perimeter. This can be used as a worksheet, a homework sheet, a recap lesson. Students could extend this further by creating their own shapes and calculating area and perimeter, or creating questions to ask a partner. This resource can be found for free on TES until Friday 10th August. Feedback Welcome!

Today’s resource looks at cards with calculations on. Students are then asked to calculate the probability of choosing a randomly selected card and it having a certain property. What I really like about this resource is it means students can practise their number calculations with BIDMAS, test them on their understanding of types of numbers, all whilst answering a probability question. This would be a good resource for a year 7 class and encompasses fluency reasoning and problem solving. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.
Foundation Revision Resource Sneak Preview

Foundation Revision Resource Sneak Preview

This is a sneak preview resource for a revision session. Students are asked to calculate the answers and sum together. There is a check in point to check that they are on the right track. To make it more difficult you could adapt it by the checkpoint but getting the student to sum the total themselves
Crossover with Ratio, Proportion and Number

Crossover with Ratio, Proportion and Number

Today’s resource combines knowledge of types of number with Ratio and Proportion. A nice review activity after finishing ratio and proportion with year 7/8 class. There is a mixture of fluency, reasoning and problem solving with students having to explain if a statement is correct. The last question is a lovely problem solving question where students are given ratios and they have to identify the numbers. This is available for FREE on TES until Friday 24th August.

Crossover with Probability, Area and Perimeter

Today’s resource concentrates more on fluency within probability area and perimeter and looks at creating a sample space from two die that have shapes on. I feel that as it would take the student quite a while to put together the sample space I didn’t want to go into much problem solving or reasoning. However should you want more challenge with this here are some ideas: -Give them the sample space with most of it filled in and ask them to complete the sample space. They would need to figure out how the sample space is calculated before they can complete it. -Remove one/two of the shapes from a dice and given the information in the sample space they can then create the shape on the dice. - Give them the probability and then ask them to complete the sample space from the probability.

Today’s resource looks at using formulae with fractions and percentages. Students are given some information and the formula and they have to answer calculations involving fractions and percentages. A small worksheet that could be given as a homework or a plenary of a lesson. This is available from TES for free until Friday 17th August. Thanks

Today’s resource follows a similar layout to yesterday’s Probability with Number. It looks at the language used with fractions as well as fractional calculations alongside probability. Fluency, reasoning and problem solving are all present within this resource with room for challenge: possibly remove one or more of the cards and the students have to come up with the calculation based on the probability take out part of the calculation, give them the probability and the student has to identify the missing fraction. The resource is available on TES for free until Monday 20th August. Feel free to send feedback.
