Creative Writing Masterclass - Narrative and Descriptive Openings

(2)
A lively and engaging lesson developing students’ ability to open their descriptive and narrative writing in an original and engaging way. Ideal in preparing students for AQA GCSE English Language Paper 1, Section B. The full scheme of work is available to purchase for just £5. Click this link to check it out! Activities are designed to develop your pupils’ ability to open their story/description in an engaging and varied way, giving them lots of different methods and strategies to enable them to do this. The lessons have been designed with the new AQA Language Paper 1 specification in mind, which places heavy emphasis on making effective vocabulary choices in the writing, but is equally useful for KS3 teaching. OCR GCSE Drama Concept Pro-Forma Guidance Booklet

OCR GCSE Drama Concept Pro-Forma Guidance Booklet

(6)
Here is a detailed guidance booklet for the OCR 'Presenting and Performing Texts' unit of the GCSE Drama qualification. Having recently had the examiner visit our school for this unit (former chief examiner David Cross I might add!) it was mentioned that the centre's concept pro-formas were particularly strong and effective. I have further updated and improved this booklet based on his feedback, so you can be sure that this has exactly what your visiting examiner will be looking for! This booklet covers all the questions on the concept pro-forma individually. For each question: * Students are given a breakdown of what the question is asking them to do, along with detailed guidance on how best to tackle the question * Top Tips for each question, along with suggested activities they can do to help them successfully prepare for the questions * Detailed exemplars (in this booklet I use DNA as the exemplar text) for each and every question in order to model strong responses. This is everything your students need to successfully tackle the pro-forma and to make the best possible impression with the visiting examiner! Buy in confidence from a TES recommended gold author!

Jekyll and Hyde comprehension and revision booklet - chapter 9

(0)
Developed specifically for the new 9-1 AQA GCSE English Literature specification (yet equally suitable for other examination boards), here is a detailed comprehension work book for Chapter 9 - ‘Dr Lanyon’s Narrative’ of Robert Louis Stevenson’s ‘Jekyll and Hyde’. This is basically a mini scheme/unit of work in a booklet and would work brilliantly as either revision for your students, independent study work for cover, tutoring and home schooling, or for students to actively read the text and consolidate their understanding as they read. Huge range of comprehension questions exploring plot, character, themes, context and writer’s messages and intentions. Questions are in chronological order (in line with events from the text) so very easy to follow and is an ideal teaching tool to ensure students are actively reading and engaging with the text. Ideal preparation for the AQA English Literature qualification as all the Assessment Objectives are covered. Covers everything they need to know for the chapter really. Due to the challenging nature of the source text, I’d say this is more geared towards middle and higher ability students. Resource is absolutely ready to go! The Drama Improvisation Generator! 170 exciting devising activities at your fingertips!

(4)
Here is the random drama improvisation generator! Who knows which direction your drama lesson will take this time!? 170 varied and exciting improvisation and devising scenarios that your students will love. The generator is a bank of 170 stimulus items/scenarios which can be selected completely at random simply by clicking on one of the coloured buttons on the menu slide. Don’t like the scenario? Simply click the ‘back’ button and try again! Students absolutely LOVE the generator, it promotes intrigue, curiosity and most of all creativity in your drama lessons. You may wish to use the generator to create a short scene as a starter, or dedicate a whole lesson to a more developed improvisation piece. The ability to devise and improvise is an essential bedrock upon which practically all other drama skills are based. Therefore, training your students to respond to a range of random stimulus items is a sure fire way to make them stronger performers and students of drama generally. This is ideal to use across all key stages and is a useful follow on to the ‘Complete Introduction to Drama’ unit available here I have also used the generator to prepare students for the GCSE ‘Devising Drama’ unit for OCR. Transform your drama lessons and turn each lesson into a mystery! Ready to roll with no adaptation needed. Potentially 170 lessons here! Jekyll and Hyde Complete GCSE Revision Guide.

(1)
This is a 27 page, fully loaded revision, study and comprehension resource for Robert Louis Stevenson’s ‘The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’. This has been written with the latest AQA (9-1) English Literature specification in mind, but I’m sure this would work equally well with other exam boards. I’ve tried to make this revision guide as active as possible, so there are lots of activities and tasks for students to do as they work through the booklet. There’s a good balance of information and engaging tasks for students to work through. This is an ideal companion to the ‘Jekyll and Hyde Exam Questions’ resource I have created (both resources are available together as a discounted bundle, available here Contents of this guide run as follows: * Visual summary of plot * Storyboard task for students to then recall the plot and key events from memory * Context (students explore key issues raised in the novella such as poverty, attitudes towards women, science vs religion, Darwinism etc by making connections between these issues and events in the novella) * Key Quotes - Students explore key quotes through analysis of their meaning and significance, quotes are broken down chapter by chapter and provide thematic links etc. * Themes - Students make connections between themes, characters and events in the novel * Characterisation - Students have to complete a character profile for all the main characters using the study tasks provided * Key Terminology - Exploring some key terminology and vocabulary that will deepen their understanding of the novella as well as impress examiners. * Exam question - an exam question worded and structured in the same way you will expect to find them on the new 9-1 literature paper (lots more of these are provided in the exam question companion booklet) *Exam Techniques - Hints and tips on how to maximise performance in the exam. Ideal for all teachers as this is a new set text to be added to the specification. Definitely a grade saving resource that enables students to fully prepare for the exam and to explore the text from lots of different angles. Ready to roll, everything a student needs to study the text/ revise for the exam and boost their confidence in the run up to the exam. Little/no adaptation required. Suitable for a range of abilities. Enjoy! If you loved the resource and think it’s worth 5 stars, why not get another one absolutely free? Act 1 Scene 4 Macbeth GCSE English Literature 9-1

Act 1 Scene 4 Macbeth GCSE English Literature 9-1

(5)
Everything you need to teach Act 1 Scene 4 of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. This is also available as part of a complete scheme of work whereby a considerable saving can be made; further details can be found here. The lessons have been created specifically for teaching at GCSE level, and cover the key assessment objectives for AQA: understanding of the text, language and structure, context/themes/author intent (although equally applicable to other exam boards). Differentiated outcomes and tasks allow you to reach all learners, although I would recommend the lessons specifically for middle to higher ability students. Throughout the scheme, students are encouraged to make notes and annotate the text, as this will be a valuable revision tool when preparing for exams. Teacher notes are provided to help explain and guide you through all phases of the lesson, with a range of interesting and engaging tasks for you to choose from. Importantly, full analysis is provided for all the tasks set, to enable you to lead interesting and engaging discussions which will deepen the students’ appreciation of the text. Strictly speaking, there is probably a lot more here than you would fit into a 1 hour lesson, so you may wish to spread this over a couple of lessons, or perhaps be a little selective with the tasks you wish to do. English Assessment Feedback Sheets - reading and writing

English Assessment Feedback Sheets - reading and writing

(1)
These feedback sheets dramatically reduce marking workload and get students taking more ownership of their work and actually acting on feedback. I introduced these into my department a while back. As a result, markloads have reduced and students are much more responsive to feedback and much more accountable for the improvements that they make. The only writing you need to do is to input levels and to write in a WWW. The rest is taken care of as all you need to do is highlight the applicable statements Sheets are for KS4 but could easily be adapted to suit KS3 and are easy to tweak. I've adapted many of the targets and areas for improvement from the AQA English language and literature mark schemes They've worked like an absolute dream, saved me loads of time and Ofsted really liked how they worked across the whole department and got students more invested in making improvements. Only minor tweaks would be needed for these to work with pretty much any assessment you might be doing. If you make a purchase and find the resource useful, why not get another one absolutely free? GCSE Spoken Language Presentations 9-1. Mini Scheme of Work. AQA, EDUQAS, OCR.
ajs12345ajs12345

GCSE Spoken Language Presentations 9-1. Mini Scheme of Work. AQA, EDUQAS, OCR.

(0)
Mini scheme of work for the new spoken language element of the English Language 9-1 GCSE. As you know, exam boards are now displaying speaking and listening grades on certificates and video recording of candidates is expected. As such, I've developed this scheme of work to ensure that my classes deliver intelligent, thoughtful and engaging presentations to secure the best possible grades. This scheme is particularly tailored for the AQA specification (and contains exemplar material from AQA candidates). However, I'm sure it will prove equally useful for all other exam boards with some very minor alterations. This is a complete mini-scheme that takes around 8 hours to complete properly. You'll also need to allow another couple of lessons on top of this for the presentations themselves. The Powerpoint will coach your students from start to finish and will cover the following aspects: * Understanding the spec and mark scheme * Generating an engaging topic (provocative statement) * How to research effectively for a presentation * Structuring the talk itself * Writing in shorthand for cue cards * Looking at exemplar material to understand the ingredients of a good presentation * Paired rehearsals * Final presentations * Student reflection activity to record grade and consider skills developed. You also have a writing frame which takes the form of a 'checklist'. This is ideal for weaker groups who might struggle with the sheer size of the task; it therefore helps them break their speech right down. I've also included the specimen Spoken Language mark scheme that has been issued across all exam boards, for your reference. I've found that the scheme has worked very well due to the high level of focus in terms of getting the topic right that students talk about. There's lots of guidance on this particular aspect of the process so I'm sure you will have as much success with your groups as I've had. Commas - Punctuation and SPaG lesson

Commas - Punctuation and SPaG lesson

(2)
Also available as a great value scheme of work here! If you are anything like me, you probably realise that just because students get into KS3 (and even KS4), it doesn’t automatically mean they know how to use punctuation properly, especially commas. This is a complete PowerPoint of thoroughly planned lessons which are designed to allow students to truly master the comma and its complex uses. The activities are lively and engaging, and the PowerPoint has a fun and relevant feel to it (using memes, cracking jokes etc) so that the idea of learning about commas (again) doesn’t feel childish or lame to them. As a minimum, you have 2 lessons worth of work here, closer to 4 if you decide to do the writing tasks thoroughly. To accompany the PowerPoint, there are two worksheets which tie in nicely to the PowerPoint and allow students to put into practice what they are being taught. I’m guessing this is probably going to suit lower to middle ability students: those on the border who tend to really struggle with SPaG and literacy. That said, I’ve often found it necessary to do the 2nd lesson (on subordinate clauses and very complex sentences) with my top sets too. Absolutely ready to roll and fully resourced. Very little adaptation or tweaking required as scaffolding and extension tasks are built in. Enjoy! If you loved the resource and think it’s worth 5 stars, why not get another one absolutely free? A Christmas Carol Comprehension and Revision Guide Stave 1

(0)
Developed specifically for the new AQA GCSE English Literature specification (yet equally suitable for other examination boards), here is a detailed comprehension work book. revision guide for Stave 1 of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’. Ideal preparation for the AQA English Literature qualification as all the Assessment Objectives are covered. 13 pages packed full of content; a wide range of engaging activities are included. A PDF copy of the source text has been included to support the page references in the workbook only. Due to the age of the source text, it is out of copyright and is available to share. Resource is absolutely ready to go, you won’t need to edit or tweak the resource for it to work with your groups. Ideal for low maintenance teaching or revision. Blood Brothers GCSE Revision and Study Guide.

Blood Brothers GCSE Revision and Study Guide.

(1)
This is a 31 page, fully loaded revision, study and comprehension resource for Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers. This has been written with the latest AQA (9-1) English Literature specification in mind, but I’m sure this would work equally well with other exam boards and would also work nicely with the drama specifications such as OCR (I’ve thrown in an OCR GCSE revision mat to accompany the guide so that it works for drama too). I’ve tried to make this revision guide as active as possible, so there are lots of activities and tasks for students to do as they work through the booklet. There’s a good balance of information and engaging tasks for students to work through. Contents run as follows: * Visual summary of plot * Storyboard resource for students to then recall the plot and key events from memory * Exploring the form and structure of the play * Context (students explore key contextual issues and make connections between events from history and events in the play) * Key Quotes - Students explore key quotes through analysis of their meaning and significance, quotes are broken down act by act * Themes - Students make connections between themes, characters and events in the play * Characterisation - Students have to complete a character profile for all the main characters using the study tasks provided * Key Terminology - Exploring some key terminology and vocabulary that will deepen their conceptual understanding of the play as well as impress examiners. * Exam questions - 5 exam questions worded and structured in the same way you will expect to find them on the new 9-1 literature paper *Exam Techniques - Hints and tips on how to maximise performance in the exam. Ideal for all teachers as there are very few past papers for the new specification; this covers all the assessment objectives they will need to cover. Definitely a grade saving resource that enables students to fully prepare for the exam.
