Punctuation and SPaG Scheme of Work

Punctuation and SPaG Scheme of Work

(10)
Complete Punctuation and SPaG scheme of work for Key Stage 3 and GCSE. It’s time to win the battle against poor grammar and punctuation once and for all! Complete unit of work which will allow your students to master advanced punctuation as well as engage with a range of exciting creative writing tasks. If you are anything like me, explicit teaching/reminding of how to properly apply punctuation is ESSENTIAL for all ability ranges, especially with the new specification GCSE placing so much emphasis on AO6. These lessons are certainly geared more towards KS3 and KS4 students. Powerpoints are light hearted and fun, with plenty of images/colour and silly jokes to keep your students engaged and entertained. I’ve found these lessons serve as an excellent ‘crash course’ in punctuation either at the beginning of the academic year or in the run up to the GCSE exams. Below is a list of contents: Commas (£2 if purchased on its own) - Commas powerpoint lessons Commas in a list worksheet Commas in a complex sentences worksheet Colons (£2 if purchased on its own) - Colon powerpoint lessons Mastering colons worksheet Semi-Colons (£2 if purchased on its own)- Semi-colon lesson powerpoints Semi-colon worksheets (x2) Semi-colon writing success criteria worksheet Speech- (£2 if purchased on its own) Speech powerpoint lessons Speech worksheet Speech mixed practice worksheet Writing success criteria worksheet Editing and proof reading - (£3 if purchased on its own) Editing and proof reading mini scheme powerpoint (nearly 50 slides) Editing and proof reading worksheets (£2 if purchased separately) A wide range of proof reading worksheets that you can use to consolidate and improve your student’s SPaG and proof reading abilities after you have finished the unit of work. This unit would suit a range of abilities as there is lots of scope for stretch and challenge, with ambitious success criteria and extension tasks built in throughout. Scaffolding and differentiation options are built in where appropriate. Fully resourced and ready to roll, minimal adaptation or tweaking required. This is obviously a SPaG/Punctuation scheme of work, but it is equally focused on creative/descriptive writing too. Much of the content is therefore ideal for teaching general creative writing skills or preparing for the fiction writing task on the new specification (9-1) GCSE English Language exam. In the booklet, students will: - Respond to a stimulus image - Come up with a range of concepts in relation to the image - Storyboard their main idea - Create character profiles for major characters - Write a portion of a script for the performance - Evaluating rehearsals -Evaluating performances -Engaging in a range of design work activities (such as set and costume designs) Has proved popular with studnets (fun) and staff (low maintenance) Feedback welcomed and appreciated!
OCR GCSE Drama Concept Pro-Forma Guidance Booklet

OCR GCSE Drama Concept Pro-Forma Guidance Booklet

(6)
Here is a detailed guidance booklet for the OCR 'Presenting and Performing Texts' unit of the GCSE Drama qualification. Having recently had the examiner visit our school for this unit (former chief examiner David Cross I might add!) it was mentioned that the centre's concept pro-formas were particularly strong and effective. I have further updated and improved this booklet based on his feedback, so you can be sure that this has exactly what your visiting examiner will be looking for! This booklet covers all the questions on the concept pro-forma individually. For each question: * Students are given a breakdown of what the question is asking them to do, along with detailed guidance on how best to tackle the question * Top Tips for each question, along with suggested activities they can do to help them successfully prepare for the questions * Detailed exemplars (in this booklet I use DNA as the exemplar text) for each and every question in order to model strong responses. This is everything your students need to successfully tackle the pro-forma and to make the best possible impression with the visiting examiner! Buy in confidence from a TES recommended gold author!
English Assessment Feedback Sheets - reading and writing

English Assessment Feedback Sheets - reading and writing

(1)
These feedback sheets dramatically reduce marking workload and get students taking more ownership of their work and actually acting on feedback. I introduced these into my department a while back. As a result, markloads have reduced and students are much more responsive to feedback and much more accountable for the improvements that they make. The only writing you need to do is to input levels and to write in a WWW. The rest is taken care of as all you need to do is highlight the applicable statements Sheets are for KS4 but could easily be adapted to suit KS3 and are easy to tweak. I've adapted many of the targets and areas for improvement from the AQA English language and literature mark schemes They've worked like an absolute dream, saved me loads of time and Ofsted really liked how they worked across the whole department and got students more invested in making improvements. Only minor tweaks would be needed for these to work with pretty much any assessment you might be doing. If you make a purchase and find the resource useful, why not get another one absolutely free? Jekyll and Hyde comprehension and revision booklet - chapter 1

(0)
Developed specifically for the new 9-1 AQA GCSE English Literature specification (yet equally suitable for other examination boards), here is a detailed comprehension work book for Chapter 1 - ‘The Story of the Door’ of Robert Louis Stevenson’s ‘Jekyll and Hyde’. This is basically a mini scheme/unit of work in a booklet and would work brilliantly as either revision for your students, independent study work for cover, or for students to actively read the text and consolidate their understanding as they read. Huge range of comprehension questions exploring plot, character, themes, context and writer’s messages and intentions. Questions are in chronological order (in line with events from the text) so very easy to follow and is an ideal teaching tool to ensure students are actively reading and engaging with the text. Ideal preparation for the AQA English Literature qualification as all the Assessment Objectives are covered. Covers everything they need to know for the chapter really. Due to the challenging nature of the source text, I’d say this is more geared towards middle and higher ability students. Resource is absolutely ready to go! GCSE Spoken Language Presentations 9-1. Mini Scheme of Work. AQA, EDUQAS, OCR.

(0)
Mini scheme of work for the new spoken language element of the English Language 9-1 GCSE. As you know, exam boards are now displaying speaking and listening grades on certificates and video recording of candidates is expected. As such, I've developed this scheme of work to ensure that my classes deliver intelligent, thoughtful and engaging presentations to secure the best possible grades. This scheme is particularly tailored for the AQA specification (and contains exemplar material from AQA candidates). However, I'm sure it will prove equally useful for all other exam boards with some very minor alterations. This is a complete mini-scheme that takes around 8 hours to complete properly. You'll also need to allow another couple of lessons on top of this for the presentations themselves. The Powerpoint will coach your students from start to finish and will cover the following aspects: * Understanding the spec and mark scheme * Generating an engaging topic (provocative statement) * How to research effectively for a presentation * Structuring the talk itself * Writing in shorthand for cue cards * Looking at exemplar material to understand the ingredients of a good presentation * Paired rehearsals * Final presentations * Student reflection activity to record grade and consider skills developed. You also have a writing frame which takes the form of a 'checklist'. This is ideal for weaker groups who might struggle with the sheer size of the task; it therefore helps them break their speech right down. I've also included the specimen Spoken Language mark scheme that has been issued across all exam boards, for your reference. I've found that the scheme has worked very well due to the high level of focus in terms of getting the topic right that students talk about. There's lots of guidance on this particular aspect of the process so I'm sure you will have as much success with your groups as I've had. This is useful in the run up to mock or final examinations, as students often don't know how to start or end their essays in the most effective way. The examples provided relate to Shakespeare's Macbeth, but the activities could relate to any of the set texts they are likely to encounter in GCSE English literature. Feedback welcomed and appreciated.

An Inspector Calls GCSE Context Posters

(4)
A collection of detailed and visually appealing posters exploring the context of An Inspector Calls in relation to when the play was set. These are great to have as a classroom display in your room. Similarly, these can be used as part of a marketplace activity whereby students learn about various contextual factors during a lesson. Rather than focus on specific contextual facts, I’ve broken context down into key themes, that way students can make more effective links between social/historical context and the play itself. Ideal for helping students to understand and embed AO3 into their analysis. If you liked the resources it’d be great if you could leave a review.
