This lesson has been observed several times and has always been rated as outstanding. This lesson introduces the concept of population distribution and the factors that influence it. It uses Africa as an example and gets the students to look at the wide variety of climates across Africa and why the population distribution is so uneven. This is an assembly to explain the gender pay gap in society today. -It covers why there is a pay gap -What are the causes of the gap -How equal the UK is compared to other countries -What we can do to fix the pay gap -And it investigates Iceland (the most equal county in the world) The assembly finishes by getting the students to think about the gift of education and what they can do to make the UK a fairer society. The assembly should take between 10 and 15 minutes to complete and is always very popular. This is an outstanding and inspirational assembly.

A fun lesson that is a good way to complete a unit on Tectonic Hazards (Earthquakes and Volcanoes) that allows pupils to make a creative piece of writing about tectonic hazards. This lesson includes a worksheet to help the pupils to write poems about Earthquakes or Volcanoes. It also includes some example poems to act as an example. This lesson looks at Rio and the diversity, colour and inequality that exist in this amazing city. The students will get a chance to practice their geographical writing and will have a deeper look at the Rio carnival. This lesson can be used as a one off lesson or as part of a larger unit of work. I use it as part of a longer unit called ‘Fantastic Places’ (available as a SoW in my shop) which is essentially an introductory unit to geography. This lesson looks at the wonderful African wilderness of Madagascar and gets the students to investigate two of it’s most famous residents: Lemurs and Sharks. A fun and informative lesson that will leave the students thirsting for more (geography!)

This geography lesson gets the students to think about what a place actually is. It is designed to kick off a year 7 or 8 unit looking at geographical skills. The students are asked to consider: -What makes a place -What their place is like -What the difference between human and physical geography is. An excellent lesson.

A useful lesson that teaches the students how to use scale on a personal, local, national and international level. This lesson is aimed at KS3 but could easily be adapted for KS2 or KS4. It is a skills based lesson focused on encouraging students to learn how to use scale on different levels.

This can be used as a stand alone lesson about the North Pole or it can be used in the Fantastic places unit of work (also available in my shop). This lesson has been observed more than once as has consistently been rated as outstanding. It looks at The North Pole (the Arctic), it’s history, it’s future and what it is like to live there. This lesson uses the ‘Home and Away’ groups technique - where students are put into ‘home’ groups, then split up again to become experts in one topic(away groups), they then get together again into their ‘home’ group and teach the rest of their group what they have learned.
