Included in this is a PPT containing a discussion based lesson of approximately 55 minutes. There is a differentiated success criteria for each student to aim for and assess themselves against at different points as a mini-plenary as well as a challenge question to consider throughout. It is a primarily discussion based lesson on what can be a very sensitive subject. For the main activity there is an explanation of how to best present your example and the conclusion of the activity which MUST be read prior to teaching. This was taught to a year 5 mixed ability class but could easily work for KS2. Edit, use, adapt and enjoy!

The Parable of the Mustard Seed - RE lesson book mark making

The Parable of the Mustard Seed - RE lesson book mark making

Make a bookmark RE activity Have you ever seen a mustard seed? The mustard seed was, at the time, believed to be the smallest of all seeds. It is so small that if you were holding one in your hand and you dropped it you would have a very hard time finding it because it is so hard to see. Even though the mustard seed is so small when it is planted in the ground, it grows into a tree large enough for birds to stand on its branches and to make their nests in it. When you look at this little mustard seed before planting it in the ground, you might think it would be impossible for a seed so tiny to grow into a tree. But God turns that tiny seed into a wonderful place for birds to come and rest and sing. When Jesus told this parable He compared it to loving God. When children, like you, or adults begin to love Jesus, their love is like a tiny mustard seed before it is planted in the ground. It starts out very small at first. Then when you keep on listening to what Jesus says and obeying Him, then the love grows bigger and bigger. Soon it will grow like the big mustard tree. You can also find this parable in Mark 4:30-32; and Luke 13:18-19.

Assembly: Humility to take advice. Assembly Collective Worship for Key Stage 2, KS3, KS4

Assembly: Humility to take advice. Assembly Collective Worship for Key Stage 2, KS3, KS4

This is an assembly which explores the theme of 'Humility' and focuses on the issues of showing humility in taking advice. This assembly works well for Key Stage 2, KS3 or KS4 (has been delivered to all!) and can also be used as Collective Worship - a prayer is included at the end. The assembly starts by exploring the story of Icarus and Daedalus with a FULL SCRIPT included. You will then raise the issues of humility in general and link to others trying hard to take advice (example is the infamous Kayne West with full notes in the notes section). You will then ask a series of questions to the group, class, form or whole school. These questions can either be delivered rhetorically or open to discussion. If you like it please leave 5 start : ) !
