Pupils will gain and develop basic performance and choreography skills through working as a whole class to perform set Gumboot rhythms using unison, repetition and action and reaction. Working in small groups, pupils are encouraged to be creative and are allocated time to experiment and improvise choreographic ideas with their groups resulting in a group performance of their Gumboot choreographies that include a prop. The Harvest Moon. A musical for EYFS and KS1.

The Harvest Moon. A musical for EYFS and KS1.

The Harvest Moon is a musical presentation of 6 songs, linked by a narrative that tells a simple story. The songs are fun, catchy and easy to learn. There is a full script for the narrator and 4 characters - Tiggy the farm cat, the Moon, Farmer Fred and Farmer Molly. Tiggy the cat and the Moon are friends. As the Harvest approaches, Tiggy explains to the moon what will happen to the wheat in Farmer Fred and Farmer Molly’s field. A performance of The Harvest Moon takes approximately 20 minutes and is easy to learn and stage. I have provided a vocal track and backing track for each song

NATIVE AUSTRALIAN WILDLIFE ADAPT TO THE ENVIRONMENT OF THE SOUTHERN LOST CITY

NATIVE AUSTRALIAN WILDLIFE ADAPT TO THE ENVIRONMENT OF THE SOUTHERN LOST CITY

The dissected sandstone plateau of the Southern Lost City of Limmen National Park provide a distinctive habitat for a range of native wildlife. This unit has a focus on survival and adaptation to this area. The Limmen National Park was proclaimed in 2012 and research is in its early years. Those with an interest in the natural environment who ventured into the area when it was used as for cattle raising (pastoral leases) made lists of wildlife observed. In the environment within and around the Southern Lost City they began to record that certain native species were increasingly difficult to sight. Coinciding with these observations were the increasing sightings of intruding feral animals such as cane toads, feral cats and feral pigs. Their conclusion was that the feral intruders were having an affect on the survival rates of native wildlife by habitat modification and food resource reduction. Future research into this situation will shed further light on these impacts. Of particular concern were the reductions of 3 species covered in this unit. They have reached the "endangered" list and were heading for extinction within this area. Of particular concern were sightings of feral cats. Though not yet numerous in this park their numbers were likely to increase and their efficient hunting and killing skills would place native bird and small mammal species under threat. The feral cat situation is covered in another unit entitled "The feral cat menace - impact on Australian native wildlife". This unit can stand alone as an introduction to the impact of feral animals on native wildlife. It cat be used to introduce the topic of tha considerable problem caused by the increasing population and spread of feral cats which are regarded as the top predator affecting native Australian wildlife. That unit will also consider programmes carried out by the AWC (Australian Wildlife Conservancy) to conserve and protect native wildlife of Australia and avoid (if possible)adding names to the list of species that have become extinct. The worksheets (colour and black and white) are included so that hard copies can be distributed.

ANIMALEASE An Introduction to Music Making, Notation and Rhythm (With MP3 Audio)

ANIMALEASE An Introduction to Music Making, Notation and Rhythm (With MP3 Audio)

Music making should be fun, irrespective of age and ability. The purpose of this guide is to provide the foundations of rhythm that can be used in a variety of learning environments. It will introduce a person to musical notation using animal names that will already be familiar to them. It works by chanting the animal names in time to a given pulse. Linking this then to a group of written musical notes to sing, tap, bang, shout, or whistle. This is not a step by step guide and we encourage anyone who uses this book to develop their own ideas using the framework. No two Animalease sessions will be the same and nor should they be. Children often see this method as a game (this is completely fine), and as it uses information that they already possess, the pupil has less to think about. This results in a more relaxed performance and learning environment. The focus should always be on active music making (but ensure that it is always in time). We have found over the years of using this method that the vast majority of pupils would be able to perform the following information in a short space of time. Before using this method, many pupils thought that making sense of written music would be very difficult. Pupils already familiar with the conventional counting method also found it useful and, in many cases, preferred it. We feel that the use of the animal names not only helps the pupil but also makes it accessible for someone who may not be confident to deliver music lessons, making Animalease a great tool for many primary school teachers. This resource comes with MP3 Files for demonstration purposes. Enjoy! Steve & Ben

The New Pupil: Short Story and Imaginative Writing Unit

The New Pupil: Short Story and Imaginative Writing Unit

This unit of work comprises of a short story about a new pupil coming to school who is considered different by the others. This should lead to some discussion about what makes people considered different. The pupil is bullied throughout the day, with the bullying getting progressively worse. The reader learns the bullies own life issues. The story teaches an important moral message and leads to many possible discussions. Many of these are introduced in a worksheet asking the pupil to note their thoughts on the story in detail, with many questions and discussion points raised. The unit then becomes an imaginative writing unit. Various elements of the short story are used as a springboard for the pupils to plan then write their own story about a new pupil coming to a school and being considered different. The unit could be used as part of an English course and should last for a half term if taught once a week. It could be used in late Primary School or early Secondary School. It is also a very good unit to teach to older SEN pupils.
