10B) Arthurs adventures continue - demonstrative and possessive adjectives

The Arthur series of comics in French, help our students who are working with Tapis Volant 2 but can be used by anyone. This is 10B in the series and continues the story of Arthur’s adventures in England form story no. 10. It demonstrates use of demonstrative and possessive adjectives and completes the grammar in Unit 10. On the cover page there are comprehension questions. Sadly, I cannot upload the sound file but a teacher can read out the text. We use the this for both listening and reading comprehension. You can white out the words if you want to use it for listening and students then have the comic pictures as support.

Un groupe de musiciens. Year 7. Developing reading and translation skills.

I have designed this to support my year 7 in developing reading/ writing / translating skills. I started with the text ( pair work competition : each pupil has a different colour pen, the first to circle the translation in French in the text wins the point and it is quite visual at the end who is fastest . Great fro competition The other activities involve finding translations, matching up for lower ability and extending sentences from the given text. The last slide on the Power Point contains a writing list of bullet points ( goes with Studio 1 ’ il est hypercool’ but can be adapted for other courses. I owe Rachel Hawkes a big thank you for inspiring the Power Point slides offering differentiation when sentence building on mini whiteboards. I hope it is useful.

This resource consists of two series of 20 phrases with 2 Common Grammar mistakes in each sentence. First part is a series of 20 Foundation phrases and second part is series of 20 Higher Level sentences. Mistakes can be on conjugation, adjectival agreement, gender, prepositions. Students have to identify the mistakes and correct it. I compiled this list of mistakes from the essays of my students. Also incuded at the end are 5 Sentences to Translate from English to French for early finishers. This is suitable for both Foundation & Higher Tier students as there’s a mixture of easy and complex sentences The sentences cover the five main topics and are taken from mistakes I have seen in students productions. This activity lasts around 1 hour with the corrections and can be used as a diagnostic activity to check pupils grammatical knowledge.

This is a set of five French cover lessons especially designed for use by non-specialists. Each lesson includes the following: Differentiated objectives and starter activities. Activity 1: Students to work in teams looking up key vocabulary in dictionaries, again, differentiated. Next slide gives answers to students so they can write down whatever they were unable to find. Challenges are included on each slide. Activity 2: Differentiated translation task using key vocabulary they have just looked up in teams. Key words provided as well as higher challenge. Le vêtements - Qui porte?- Card Game

This game is a French version of the classic " I have… Who has …? " game, designed to practice the names of the clothes, the colours, the agreement between nouns and adjectives and the verb “wear”. This is an easy-to-play game and a great way to practice essential language concepts with the whole class. As students match up the answers on their cards with questions on other students’ cards, they get valuable practice with vocabulary, as well as reading and listening skills. Directions: Cut out the cards along the dotted line and laminate. For bigger classes, you might want to print several copies of each set. Give out all the cards in the set to the students. It is important to use all the cards. Choose a student to go first. I usually do that by a counting rhyme. Have the selected student read the question at the bottom of the card aloud and then put the card down. The student who has the card with the answer then reads that answer aloud. This student will then read the question at the bottom of their card and put the card down. Play continues in this fashion until all of the cards have been played. The game will end with the same student who started play. Every card in the set is connected to a card before it and a card after it. To keep the game moving at a quick pace, all students need to pay attention to every question that has been asked. I tell my younger students that this is a magic game and that the magic only works if you pay attention, which is actually true. The magic happens in the end, when the question on the last card actually matches the answer on the very first card. Enjoy!

A bright and interactive PowerPoint presentation to enable pupils to begin building sentences and conduct simple conversations. It covers the first and second person singular of ‘avoir’ so that children are able to ask for and give information about their pets. It also deals with the masculine and feminine singular of adjectives including possessives (mon/ma; ton/ta). There is an accompanying vocabulary sheet, which needs to be studied before embarking on the paired and group conversation activities suggested in the presentation. Several worksheets accompany the PowerPoint: a crossword and word search to support the learning of essential vocabulary, a cloze exercise based on a simple text to be tackled as pupils progress towards sentence work, and finally, a written exercise where the task is to continue a conversation about pets between two friends.

Attached is a Grammar and Vocab tests for Year 9 students. The test is made of a 7 grammar exercises such as present tense, prepositions, adjectives and pronouns, 7 vocab ones, a Reading Comprehension and 2 Writing Tasks. points . The test lasts around 1 hour and 1h30. It works well as an End of Year test or for homework. Itcan also be used for lower ability GCSE students.
