GO FISH game. Shapes

GO FISH game. Shapes

Activity Five cards are dealt to each player if three to six players are involved. With only two players, seven cards are dealt to each. All remaining cards are placed face down in a pile. First, choose a player to go first. n each person’s turn, ask any player for a specific card rank. For example: “Sarah, please give me all your ovals.” You must already hold at least one card of the rank you ask for. If the player you ask has any cards of the requested rank, she must give all of her cards of that rank to you. In the example, Sarah would have to give you all of her ovals. If you get one or more cards from the player you ask, you get another turn. It starts again and you may ask any player for any rank you already hold, including the same one you just asked for. If the person you ask has no relevant cards, they say, “Go fish.” You then draw the top card from the draw pile. If you happen to draw a card of the rank asked for, show it to the other players and your turn continues. Otherwise, it is the next player’s turn. You add the drawn card to your hand. NOTE: The “next player” is the one who said “Go fish.” When you collect a set of four cards of the same rank, immediately show the set to the other players and place the four cards face down in front of yourself. That is a “match”. Go Fish continues until either someone has no cards left in their hand or the draw pile runs out. The winner is the player who then has the most matches (sets of four). For younger children you can deem “matches” a pair of a rank (2 cards instead of 4) which allows them to “win” a few extra times and keeps the game moving.

EAL for Secondary Students - Workbook 1

EAL for Secondary Students - Workbook 1

EAL for Secondary Students (Workbook 1) directly addresses the unique academic needs facing students who arrive in the UK with little or no English. Beginning with first principles EAL for Secondary Students ensures that the student will develop an effective understanding of English. The tremendous advantage of this resource is that the student will immediately become fully included in the learning process. At the end of each unit, the student can record the progress they have made by completing the user friendly self-assessment sheet. EAL for Secondary Students is a student-centred resource which enables the student to be actively engaged in developing skills that are required in an academic environment. The teacher can witness and monitor the steady progress the EAL student is making towards becoming an independent learner. EAL for Secondary Students allows the teacher the flexibility to select appropriate topics. EAL for Secondary Students can, also, be used as an excellent Induction programme. When it is necessary and appropriate to withdraw students from mainstream classes, this is a systematic self-contained resource that enhances language development and activates confidence in the student. EAL for Secondary Students Workbook 1 contains over 80 pages of exercises.

Reading and Writing Activity - Lost and Found

Reading and Writing Activity - Lost and Found

This is an engaging, deductive activity resulting in finding and matching the lost children with their descriptions. It is suitable for use with children who have the basics of reading with understanding in English. It involves reading the descriptions of twelve children and recording the identities on a worksheet. An answer sheet is included for use by teachers or to provide the opportunity for peer marking. Clothes and colour reference pages are also available for use to aid comprehension if vocabulary is unknown. This is of particular value to children who have English as an additional language. Clothes and accessories picture and word matching cards are included and could be used prior to taking part in the deductive activity to ensure familiarisation with the vocabulary to be used. Reading, writing and deductive skills are required for the worksheet completion. If the activity is done as pair work or group work, speaking, listening and interaction are also involved. This activity is suitable for use by all Primary 2 / Primary3 children. If children have English as an additional language, using the activity with older children would also be beneficial for the learning /consolidation of English clothes and colour vocabulary. This resource could be used by an individual, as pair work, group work or by all children who could complete individual worksheets. The total number of twelve illustrations of children and twelve find cards would always have to be provided for the worksheet completion as twelve answers are required.. If using as a class activity more duplicated illustrations and find cards would need to be provided. Suggestions for use • The illustrations of the children could be secretly hidden in the classroom. (while the children are outside) The children could each be given a find card and then play ‘Hunt the lost children’ . • The illustrations could be pinned on walls around the classroom. • Single illustrations could be given to each child who would then swop with another child who has a different illustration. An optional follow up activity could be individual pupils writing a description of one class member. The descriptions could then be redistributed randomly to the class for identification by other class members. A worksheet is included for use.

A Year of Bento - Lunchbox Photos for Educational Use

A Year of Bento - Lunchbox Photos for Educational Use

In Japan there is a tradition that the mothers of children of kindergarten age provide their children with a lunchbox two or three times a week to take with them to school. Usually, these are made early in the morning along with breakfast. A lot of effort goes into making a tasty, nutritious and visually appealing meal that will be put into a small lunchbox called a ‘bento’, which is then wrapped in a colorful cloth napkin. The images in this pack can be used with classes of all ages and backgrounds, and in different ways according to the teacher’s skills and inclinations. Following is a list of the contents and some possible uses. 1. A set of 50 high quality JPEG images that can be printed out for use in games and tasks of many kinds. 2. A 14 page PDF document of the same images grouped into sets of 4 that can be used for bingo, matching or comparison type games. 3. A Powerpoint 14 slide presentation of the same 4 grouped images for demonstration purposes, or classroom quizzes. There are sample questions in the notes section of each slide, which are aimed at kindergarten/elementary level, but can be altered to suit the level of the class. 4. A Keynote presentation for Mac or iPad users, which contains the same 14 slides and information as the Powerpoint. All the images in this pack are copyrighted for personal and educational use.
