#### Maths / STEM / Science Project Lesson - Density of Metals (Density, Ratio, Volume)

This is a Maths/STEM project lesson based around calculating and comparing the density of different metals. Students have to first calculate and rank the densities of the metals, than answer questions based on combining different ratios of metals. These questions involve working out density, volume or mass from compound metal alloys of differing ratios. The lesson was pitched at year 10, and has a support sheet to enable access for foundation students. The lesson was designed to last 75 minutes, but actually the difficult quesitons in the sheet means it could easily last 90 minutes or more if required.

#### Properties of 2D and 3D shapes

A fantastic set of worksheets for children to explore the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.

#### Volume Angles Trapeziums Bundle

#### 3D Shape Memory

MORE THAN JUST A MEMORY GAME!! Though this was created as a memory game, its cards can be used for so many other fun and educational activities, games and study aides. Print these pages out double-sided. This will make the page containing a colorful design the cover, or top, of the cards. Laminate the printed sheets to make for more durable playing cards (printing with card stock can also help with durability). Cut the cards along the black line. Once cut, mix the cards up, lay them out, and take turns flipping cards over. Kids will be exercising their memory, learning, and having fun while doing so! :)

#### The volume is 1 litre

A set of questions to practise working backwards from a volume to find a missing length in cuboids, cylinders, pyramids, cones and spheres. The volume is fixed each time at 1 litre, allowing pupils to focus on the process of reversing the operations. Inspired by variation theory, keeping as much as possible fixed focussed attention on the on the effect of changing only one element. Each question is related to a previous one, and pupils should be encouraged to predict what each new answer might be before computing, leading to discussion and further thinking if the predictions are not realised. Answers are included.

#### Harry Potter and the Conversion of Units

A student asked me to do a resource involving Harry Potter; we are doing unit conversion soon so this is what occurred. There are two tasks, one converting metric units (including a challenge involving areas and volumes) and a second converting between metric and imperial. I downloaded a font from dafont.com for free so if you want to edit the worksheets (I have included the Word versions so you can do so) you will have to download the font too.

#### SATs Bundle (Measurement)

Topic-focused SATs questions and fully-worked solutions for the MEASUREMENT strand. Click 👉 tes.com/…/bundles… for booklet bundles of the other strands.
I have put all my MEASUREMENT booklets together in this one convenient download. I hope that this is helpful to you.
The questions in these booklets are in the style of actual SATs questions and are designed to be printed as A4 or A5. KEY POINTS: I have provided full answers, with comments and working where helpful. I have maintained the style of the actual SATs questions so that students can become comfortable with the way that SATs questions are presented. Most of the questions are from actual SATs papers, but I have also added questions so that this resource matches the requirements the current curriculum better than the older resources that are still in common use (note that many of the older resources of this type contain questions on topics which are no longer examined). I have spent a lot of time arranging the questions so that there is a general increase in difficulty as students work through them, and so that they fit on the pages better – this means less wasted space and significant paper-saving when printing 😃
👍If you like this resource, then please rate it and/or leave a comment💬. If the rate-resource button on this page doesn’t work, then go to your ratings page by clicking 👉 www.tes.com/…/rate-resources…

We then go through the answers so students can self assess. I feel these have helped strengthen their understanding on some of the basic topics, leaving me more time in class to concentrate on more complex problems.

#### Volume of a prism Diagnostic Questions

This PowerPoint includes questions on finding the volume of a sphere. The answers are in a multiple choice format with one correct answer and three incorrect answer, however the three incorrect answers are not randomly selected but would indicate a misconception if chosen by a student. The format is based upon Craig Barton’s Diagnostic Questions.

#### Y5/6 Shape Questions (taken from SAT papers, disguised to like classroom task!)

9 Word documents linked to Year 5/6 Shape NC. Questions are taken from past SATs papers, but ‘dressed up’ to be used in normal lessons. I’ve found them particularly useful, as they prepare Y6 for SAT questions gradually without them realising! Included: -2D Features -3D Shapes -Angles -Unknown Angles -Area -Perimeter -Volume -Measurement Conversions -Time -(answers to all questions are at the end of each document) (photo included is of these tasks used by my own class)

#### Year 5 / 6 Maths games and activities

In this bundle are a range of maths activities which cover math objectives from the U.K curriculum for Year’s 5 and 6.

#### Horse racing- themed challenge on perimeter, area and volume (Upper KS2 / Lower KS3)

This is a challenging activity where children must use their problem solving and reasoning skills to solve perimeter, area and volume questions. It worked exceptionally well with my Y5 class and the horse racing theme really inspired the children! This activity works best over a whole lesson and I like to put the children into mixed ability groups. Some of the questions are quite challenging (although it doesn’t deviate from the national curriculum in anyway) which makes it ideal for Y5 and 6 children; it could also be used in a lower KS3 setting as a fun way to recap on perimeter, area and volume. This pack includes the activity, a question sheet and a powerpoint which not only gives the correct answers but explains each step visually for the children - this makes it ideal for the children to self-assess and provide on-the-spot feedback to the whole class once the activity has been completed. I’d be grateful if you could review the resources and please see my shop for other resources: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/d_roberts1
