YEAR 12 (MEDIA EDUQAS LINEAR): COMP1, SEC A: Representation in 'The Daily Mirror' & 'The Times’

Lesson 16-17, REPRESENTATION in ‘The Daily Mirror’ and 'The Times’, how are debates mediated and framed for consumption. This DOUBLE lesson continues the exploration of the selected Examiner newspapers. This was also observed and was rated as ‘Outstanding’ in all features with notable reference to delivery of High Level A Star theory and AFL. The lesson includes: -Mediation -Representation -Progressive and regressive ideologies -An focused analysis of a selected issue of the ‘Daily Mirror’ -Archetype -Stuart Hall’s theories on representation including an Outstanding video that looks at construction, encoded/ decoded meaning. -Hegemonic and maligned mass -A physical activity based on Stuart Hall’s three readings theory -The 4th vs the 5th estate -Ideology and the ideological state apparatus **THIS LESSON INCLUDES THREE H/W TASKS AND A RESOURCE SHEET. ALL LINKS TO RESOURCES NEEDED FOR EXTENDED READING ARE INCLUDED IN THE POWER POINT, ** This will be uploaded as a series of lessons on Component 1, Section A and will be part of a group of resources with different theories/terms as headings under each Exam Component. This lesson is therefore Ideal for those wanting to Team Teach or teach Component 1, Sections A and B at differing times. NOTE: I am following EDUQAS Teaching Model 1 in my teaching/ SOW and my school is only providing Media Studies at A-Level, as a Two- Year Course. Moreover, each lesson has a task whereby students RAG (Red, Amber, Green) what they have learnt in the lesson against an Examiner checklist (Differentiation, peer assessment). YEAR 11 AQA LEGACY SERIAL TV DRAMA, LESSON 1-3: INTRO TO TV SERIAL DRAMA, CODES, CONVENTIONS, GENRE

AQA LEGACY TV SERIAL DRAMA, LESSON 1-3: INTRO TO TV SERIAL DRAMA, CODES, CONVENTIONS, GENRE= This unit will comprise of all of the content needed for this Year’s selected GCSE topic, Serial TV Drama. The unit will focus on the selected texts; ‘Lethal Weapon’, ‘The Night Manager’ and ‘Stranger Things’ and will culminate in students picking their own 4th text to analyse. The course will end with a booklet to work on during the month before the exam when all formal teaching must cease, with each lesson including a H/W task that contributes to thee exam. This TRIPLE lesson explores and looks at: -Breakdown of the Exam and best stips for passing and getting an A STAR -Introduction to the selected Primary texts -Genre -Sub-genres; Period, Action, Horror, Teen, Medical, Crime, Comedy, Sci-Fi and Fantasy. -Platforms Multi-platforms -A glut of audio/visual and print examples from all three selected texts to get the student familiar with the concepts and Serial TV Drama’s An analysis at the start of the lesson of the Examiners expectations to get students on the right track. Booklet can be found on the AQA website under Guidance for Teachers 2018, Unit 1- External Assessment Topic, Serial TV Drama. This lesson includes two H/W tasks; one to consolidate learning, the second to start students working on their own 4th case study! (Each lesson is laid out as I teach my own class but I have added notes at the bottom of some of the slides e.g. on the Media Teaser, to aide teachers. All lessons are developed with differentiation, assessment/challenge as well as engagement entrenched heavily within all my resources. Moreover, constant reference is made throughout to the selected Examiner Media. Lesson 21-22, Feminist perspectives, masculinity and gender performity: This lesson continues to explore the unit on Identities and the Media, one of the two elements of the MEST 3 Exam Paper (The other being New Digital Media). The lesson introduces the learners to the following concepts: -Femininity and Masculinity (Based and taught to address the misconceptions the students previously had on both). -Masculinist -Feminist= Radical, Marxist and post-modern. -Dual-systems theory -Laura Mulvey ‘Male Gaze’ -Ariel Levy - ‘Raunch Culture’ (The students must unlock this A* theory by correctly demonstrating their retained knowledge of Mulvey’s theory, Discovery learning/ Challenge) -Exploration of the ‘Me Too’ and ‘Times up’ campaigns A variety of Tv, Music Video and advert examples for students to analyse. -Task based around a past SEction B Exam Question on the exam. ** This resource also includes a H/W task. **NOTE: This lesson follows the LEGACY AQA A-Level Specification. Lesson 13-15, JUNE 2013 MEST3 and 2014 MEST 3: This lesson continues to explore the unit on Identities and the Media, one of the two elements of the MEST 3 Exam Paper (The other being New Digital Media). To really challenge learners, students picked their own Section B question from the past papers and I surprised them with a Section A of my choice that played to their weaknesses. **THIS QUAD SHOULD BE TAUGHT AFTER THE STUDENTS HAVE WRITTEN THE MOCK AND HAVE HAD THEIR MARKS BACK. THEREFORE THIS UNIT OF WORK SHOULD PROVIDE 6-7 LESSONS OF IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS. **Therefore, the paper is a hybrid of two past exams (All information on how to acquire this copyrighted content is included in the lesson. Resources for the Close Study Product for the reformed AQA GCSE Media Studies course. Designed for AQA, also applies to Eduqas and anyone discussing the mobile game industry and feminine stereotypes in gaming. The resources relate to the Lara Croft Go app/game, and study the Media Representation, Audiences, Industries and Language around theTomb Raider / Lara Croft brand, feminism and sexualisation in gaming, the positive and negative aspects of gaming and game industry regulation. The Powerpoint includes all resources and six/seven lessons work (with possible expansion). Lesson 1: Introduction to the game and the Lara Croft brand, female stereotypes and women in gaming, evolution of the Lara Croft franchise, Lesson 2: How is the game structured, narrative techniques used. Lesson 3: Game analysis, NICS, codes and conventions. Lesson 4: Visual and aural semiotic codes, intertextuality.
