A useful quick-fire 5/10 minute maths retrieval activity. Can be used at the start or end of a maths lesson, or as a quick activity at an alternative time of the day. Questions are based on the Year 5 mathematics programmes of study for the national curriculum in England. The PowerPoint can be edited, allowing you to quickly and easily change the numbers for each question. This enables you to use the same slide on more than one occasion, which is particularly useful if you feel there is an area that your class needs to regularly recap and revisit. Children can complete the questions on each slide on a whiteboard, or in the back of their maths books. Each slide contains a challenge for children to complete if they finish early. Challenges include things such as creating their own word problems, explaining the process they used step-by-step, or representing their question using bar models, number lines, arrays etc. Where beneficial, sentence stems are also provided, as well as place value charts and squares to model how to use squared paper correctly. There are 24 separate slides included, which cover topics such as: Addition (including of decimals) Subtraction (including of decimals) Multiplication Division Adding and subtracting fractions Multiplying fractions Fractions of a quantity Square numbers and cube numbers Multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 (including of decimals) Rounding (including of decimals) Inverse operations Roman numerals Factors and common factors Multiples and common multiples

Use photos of staff as infants as a hook into the lesson – can children work with their table to guess who is in each photo? Children have to create a timeline to show the changes that occur in humans during the infancy stage of development (from birth to 2 years). Children use an I-pad/tablet to research the average age when these changes occur. Differentiated activity. Children to draw the timeline in their science books, thinking carefully about how to space out the intervals at equal distances. Ready-made timelines are provided to support lower ability pupils if needed. Challenge on the prompt sheet - children to find two more changes that occur during infancy and add them to the timeline in a different colour.

Transition/new school year activity - set goals for the year - postcard to future self - primary KS2

(0)
A great transition activity to complete when meeting a new class for the first time, or as a first week back to school activity. Children have to write a postcard to their future selves. In it, they set some goals for the academic year, and they write about their hopes and dreams for the future. Keep the postcards in a safe place in the classroom, ideally displayed somewhere in a box/envelope so that children are regularly reminded about their goals. Then, on the last day of the year, give the postcards back to the children and allow them to read them back. They will be able to reflect on their goals and hopefully they will be proud of themselves for what they have achieved! Includes PowerPoint presentation, prompt sheets for table tasks and postcard template.
