Christmas Scratch Animated card

Christmas Scratch Animated card

This contains a starter where students are asked to ponder what makes an animated card interesting. The scripts are then given for learners to create a fully animated e-card. It includes moving snow, decorations that find their way to the tree, a star coming from the sky and landing on the tree. Baubles that flash, and a merry Christmas sign that lights up. Some features start automatically and others are interactive. This can be used from around age 7 right up to year 11! Everyone loves a Christmas theme! The lesson ends with a bronze, silver gold worksheet which allows differentiation from a cloze key word task, to considering real life uses, and ends with Blooms evaluative task for more able learners. There is also a homework / extended learning task available. Two learning walks have been rated outstanding with this lesson.

Assessing and Recording without the Exercise Book

Assessing and Recording without the Exercise Book

Children often know more about science that we think; sometimes they just donʼt have the skills to write down their ideas. I wrote this book because I have a strong belief that all children, whatever their literacy levels, should be given the opportunity to share what they know about science. Over the years, Iʼve developed a range of alternative recording methods that allow children to express their knowledge and learning. These have been tried and tested in the classroom. This book outlines these methods, gently guiding the reader through each one. I cover what each recording method looks like, the reason behind using it, some ideas on how to incorporate it into a lesson and how to use it to assess children. My hope is that this book will show teachers that there are ways to record and assess science that are fun and creative and that generate enthusiasm in the classroom. Most importantly - they donʼt involve an exercise book. By using these methods youʼll find that children, particularly those who lack the ability to get things down on paper, will demonstrate an amazing science understanding. They just needed to be given the chance to express it their way! This book was written for primary Teachers but the ideas can be used in secondary schools as well.

KS2 Film making lesson plan with easy to follow lessons and end of unit outcome

KS2 Film making lesson plan with easy to follow lessons and end of unit outcome

Children are often engaged when they have a context/ purpose for their writing. This is a unit of plan that I use to engage my whole class and encourage and inspire the children's activities. Children will use newspaper reports and convert them into news reports using iPads and iMovie. They will learn technical language to describe shot sizes and they'll understand why different shot sizes are used on their favourite TV programs. This unit comes with an end of unit assessment and meets NC objectives for Computing and Literacy writing and speaking and listening. The skills learnt will enable children to create VLOGS, short drama narratives, recounts and these products all look great on school websites and social media accounts.
