China - 50 Minute - Reading Activity Guide

China - 50 Minute - Reading Activity Guide

Have your students read an interesting article about China. The reading for this activity guide is lively, full of facts and has lots of pictures. It covers basic facts, sights to see and the people there. The article is 10 pages long and is a nice straightforward summary with supporting pictures. It is a good way to introduce a new unit or just spend a short time on China. The article is embedded in the guide for students to access online and also included as a PDF. The guide is a 2 page pdf and is very simple and straight-forward. This could also be assigned as a substitute lesson plan. If you have the students read the article together in small groups, then do the activity guide and share their extension activities that lesson should take about 50 minutes. Thanks for looking! End of year Year 7 quiz/game

These are the questions for an End of Year 7 (1st year of Chinese) quiz. The questions go with a game similar to Jenga which you can buy at Australian Kmarts called Bugs Building. It has 3 colours and a dice with the colours on. Students roll the dice and whichever colour they roll they have to answer a question from that pile. If they can answer correct they can play a piece in the colour of the question they answered. *Could also be used as quiz questions without the game.

Around the World - date, days and time

Around the World - date, days and time

This is a game designed for students learning Chinese (Mandarin). Students will stand in a circle (can be done standing around the outside of the classroom). Excel Spreadsheet is projected onto the board. One student is chosen to start, working clockwise, each student takes turns saying the word shown on the board. If the English is shown, the student must say the Chinese. If the Chinese is shown, the student must say both the English and the Chinese. If the student is correct, they stay in the game and await their next turn. If they are wrong, they sit down. When the next incorrect answer is given, the students who are already "out" have the opportunity to stand back up and re-enter the game by answering the word correctly. Press F9 on your keyboard to randomly select a new word. You must be using Microsoft Excel 2016 or the spreadsheet must be opened through a web browser for it to work properly.
