Welcome to your vote week

A message from the Electoral Commission

The Electoral Commission oversees elections in the UK. They are independent of Government and work to ensure that current and future voters have the information they need to be able to vote. Their impartiality and their role in elections means that all their education resources are accurate and reliable and are not party-political.

Monday 9 March marks the beginning of Welcome to Your Vote Week which is the Electoral Commission's annual UK wide week to help young people learn about democracy, understand why voting matters and take confident steps to get involved. With the UK government’s commitment to lowering the voting age, this year’s theme is “Why Voting Matters".

Welcome to Your Vote Week is an opportunity for those who work with young people to start a conversation about democracy and voting. Whether you’re introducing the basics of democracy or deepening existing knowledge, there are plenty of ways to get involved.
