This is a resource package for teaching the New BTEC HSC Level 3, Unit 1 Human Growth and Development through Life Stages, A2 Intellectual Development and covers all that’s on the spec. It has a 17 page booklet you can add to or alter, which has presentation note pages for the 4 PowerPoints, activities and homework tasks so it’s pretty engaging and the student can print it of and refer to sections themselves for revision. There is an A2 exam paper and easy-to-use mark scheme to check progress on this section too.
The content includes:-
PowerPoint introduction > In infancy and early childhood there is rapid growth in intellectual and language skills:
PowerPoint > Piaget’s model of how children’s logic and reasoning develops – stages of cognitive development, the development of schemas, his tests of conservation, egocentrism and how his model may explain children’s thoughts and actions
PowerPoint > Chomsky’s model in relation to how children acquire language – Language Acquisition Device (LAD), the concept of a critical period during which children may learn language, which may explain how children seem to instinctively gain language.

If you are following my SoW 2023-2024, this is Week 14, this now relates to PSA Task 3a (Life Event PIES) and 3b (Support) . There are homework tasks for both Level 1 and Level 2 which are adaptable to suit your need eg.date There are activities aimed at building up student notes to have with them in the PSA and capture understanding and can be referred to whilst students complete the PSA Controlled Assessment. There is the continued literacy support with useful vocabulary, again and a case study example PIES.
There’s a 39 slide presentation introducing life events to get students thinking to start with.
All the spec content relates to Life Event impacting on a person experiencing a point from the Health & Wellbeing category and suitable support. There is also points that guides students to considers personality impacting on coping strategies. This detail is included in the 40 slide presentation which has pause points for student contribution and breaks to complete their notes table which they can refer to in the actual PSA. There is homework worksheets for both Level 1 and Level 2 learners.
