Google Expedition Tour in Spanish: a scavenger hunt for furniture in the White House, 1st floor is a class activity that reviews furniture items, interrogative words and prepositions while students take a virtual tour of part of the White House using virtual reality viewers, a tablet, iPods, wireless Internet and a customized designed worksheet. Students are provided a guided tour created by their Spanish teacher instead of stating the English-based tour provided by Google.
The lesson objective is simple. Use this Google Expedition Tour in Spanish to review previously learned vocabulary related to furniture items found in a home and explore a famous landmark at the same time.
Tips: The worksheet is created to be completed while the teacher leads students on the tour. Each line designates a break in the tour. The breaks allow for the teacher to review information with students as well as allows students to rest their eyes from the visual stimulation of the viewers. This activity took about 45 minutes including the set up of 20 virtual reality viewers.
This activity is suitable for any grade where virtual reality viewers are recommended and if the students meet the Spanish reading level provided on the worksheet. In this particular case, the target audience is a freshman/sophomore level Spanish class with no prior middle school Spanish experience.
