Statistics: (S1) Finding the Standard Deviation and Variance

Statistics: (S1) Finding the Standard Deviation and Variance

This is a whole lesson to teach the basics of what the standard deviation is and how to calculate it. It comes with a starter, key words, a link to a video, some examples, some key questions and plenary. This is suitable for both S1 at A-Level or KS5, but also excellent for those studying Statistics GCSE. This does NOT go into areas like the normal distribution and some other applications of finding the standard deviation, this is just the first lesson on basically learning what it is and how to find it. It is a good PowerPoint lesson for those doing GCSE Statistics or A-Level Statistics. I have also included a basic excel calculator thing I created to help me find answers quickly and this also could be something to do with the pupils as a lesson in itself. NOTE: Feel free to browse my shop for more excellent free and premium resources, and as always please rate and feedback, thanks.

Statistics Variance Proof

Statistics Variance Proof

Ever wondered where the formula for variance comes from (the mean of the squares - the square of the means)? I got bored one day and put my thought pattern into a power point. I hope it flows well and makes sense!
