Choreography- GCSE Component 1 Responding to a Stimulus

Choreography- GCSE Component 1 Responding to a Stimulus

I use this with my year 10s as a mock attempt of their final choreography using the example exam question resources given by AQA. It worked really well with them and helped them to understand how to respond to a set question in an interesting and abstract way. The scheme covers use of RADS to create motifs, motif development, use of choreographic devices, how to structure and appropriate accompaniment choice. the resource also includes a booklet which is followed through the PP and a homework booklet which has examples of hypothetical choreography questions for students to complete across the scheme.

GCSE English Language, Paper 1 Question 5, AQA - writing Haiku's

GCSE English Language, Paper 1 Question 5, AQA - writing Haiku's

This is a fun, lively student centered lesson which revolves around team work activities and allowing the students to push their creativity and imagination. Many students struggle with imagination when it comes to question 5 and many panic, especially as it holds so many marks. This lesson uses images to inspire a range of vocabulary, language features and ideas for a storyline all within the planning of a haiku, therefore underpinning some of the essential skills needed to answer this question. This is quick paced session with a range of 10 minute activities which encourage independent learning and team work. I found that many students created a range of fantastic haiku’s which I made into a booklet for the students to take away with them. This sort of thing also scores brownie points with the managers and Ofsted but also helps to develop a sense of achievement and self confidence in English, which many students lack. It is also great for the students to know their work in English has a use other than for passing an exam and many feel pride in that. This lesson covers: planning for written work, synonyms, metaphors, similes, personification, hyperbole, long short sentences, imagination but can be adapted to cover much more if so desired. It ends with a peer marking assessment based on the Facebook liking system using emoticons and a chance to act like an examiner and identify language features. There is a homework task, which if desired, could be turned into a in class task other than homework. Hope it helps

Brighton Rock | Pilot Theatre Resource Pack with Workshop Exercises

Brighton Rock | Pilot Theatre Resource Pack with Workshop Exercises

Pilot Theatre and York Theatre Royal present a brand new adaptation of Graham Greene’s classic noir thriller Brighton Rock, written by Bryony Lavery, directed by Esther Richardson, with new music by the composer Hannah Peel. This is a great show for all Key Stage 4 and 5 students with strong links to literature and performing arts. It will be a brilliant opportunity for students of Drama and Performing Arts at GCSE, BTEC or A level to experience cutting edge contemporary live theatre. It is an ideal fit as a companion to studying the original novel story by Graham Greene. The pack includes text and video interviews with the creative team, an introduction to the author and text, workshop exercises, rehearsal photography, and links to online resources to enable students to gain an insight into the process of developing the work from page to stage. It is a fast paced narrative explored by an innovative contemporary theatre company. The fearless young protagonists in the play are overseen by the menacing Dark Angels and brought to life by Bryony Lavery’s gritty dialogue. The play is underscored by a vibrant, original soundtrack composed and performed by Hannah Peel. Workshops are available throughout the tour. Contact Pilot at or 01904 635755 for more information.
