Aliens Attack! - Simple Straight Lines

Aliens Attack! - Simple Straight Lines

This engaging class wide activity involves reading coordinates in one quadrant and being able to name very simple straight line graphs e.g. x=2 y=1. Increasing to four quadrants and any variation of graphs. The images are moveable and on the notebook file are on an infinite cloner so move and add at leisure.

Nuisance Neighbours - Simple Straight Lines

Nuisance Neighbours - Simple Straight Lines

This logic puzzle involved reading coordinated in one quadrant and being able to name very simple straight line graphs e.g. x=2 y=1. Possible extensions could include, what's the fewest number of fences you could do it in. House g wants a bigger plot etc. I used this with my bottom set year 10 though is suitable for a variety of ages.

Differentiation 2: Increasing / decreasing functions and stationary points

Differentiation 2: Increasing / decreasing functions and stationary points

These are two worksheets on differentiation, with step by step solutions. Sheet 1 has questions on finding intervals where f(x) is increasing or decreasing. Sheet 2 has questions on finding stationary points and determining the nature of stationary points, as well as real life application questions. Detailed typed answers are provided to every question. I hope you find these useful. You can get more free worksheets on many topics, mix and match, with detailed step-by-step solutions at https://www.onemathsquestions.com. Online learning course with videos and with these questions at https://www.onemaths.com.

Equation of a circle

Equation of a circle

A lesson on discovering the equation of a circle. Students start by plotting coordinates using a table of values followed by whiteboard questions on identifying the radius given an equation and writing the equation given the radius. After this are a few examples of finding the points of intersection of a line and a circle using simultaneous equations.

Piecewise Functions

Piecewise Functions

I have made some simple questions on piecewise functions for KS4 classes (either higher GCSE or level 2 further maths). I started with Piece it together from Underground maths, then got them to have a go at my questions. They all fit on the blank axes attached which are from Don Steward originally, I think. Both pages fit on one sheet of A4. https://undergroundmathematics.org/thinking-about-functions/piece-it-together

Solving functions graphically

Solving functions graphically

A lesson designed to develop students' understanding of solving functions graphically. The lesson uses functions plotted via desmos, I would use this lesson with reference to the software to illustrate the functions in real time.

Characteristics of Graphs of Rational Expressions - Asymptotes, Holes, etc

Characteristics of Graphs of Rational Expressions - Asymptotes, Holes, etc

This 9 poster scavenger hunt requires students to examine the characteristics of rational expressions graphs. Have students analyze a question and find the graph that matches the information. Students will: Identify the horizontal and vertical asymptotes Identify the domain and range Describe end behavior Determine holes (if any) (please note: the holes are indicated by points on the graph) This is easily adaptable to fit your class needs and instructional methods. This is a great review of rational expressions and their graphs after instruction or before a test.
