Star incentive cards

Star incentive cards

Star cards work really well with yr 7 and 8. Highlight your expectations of how students receive a star at the beginning of the term (these expectations can also be found on the back of the card). Good reward for good behaviour and an excellent way of building positive relationships with students. Also helps to get children to extra curricular clubs if spun correctly. Hand out a card to each individual student at the start of the term and it is then their responsibility to bring it along to the lessons to achieve the star if they stand out. More stars equals bigger reward for the students with the best attitude!

Whole Class Feedback Template

Whole Class Feedback Template

This template allows for quick and insightful feedback to be given to students in line with the Ofsted feedback policy, Whole class feedback allows teachers to give general or specific feedback depending on how the template is used, pick up general misconeptions or grammatical errors buy highlighting multiple students, or give priase to individual students for their succeses. “Ofsted does not expect to see a particular frequency or quantity of work in pupils’ books or folders. Ofsted recognises that the amount of work in books and folders will depend on the subject being studied and the age and ability of the pupils. Ofsted recognises that marking and feedback to pupils, both written and oral, are important aspects of assessment. However, Ofsted does not expect to see any specific frequency, type or volume of marking and feedback; these are for the school to decide through its assessment policy. Marking and feedback should be consistent with that policy, which may cater for different subjects and different age groups of pupils in different ways, in order to be effective and efficient in promoting learning. While inspectors will consider how written and oral feedback is used to promote learning, Ofsted does not expect to see any written record of oral feedback provided to pupils by teachers. If it is necessary for inspectors to identify marking as an area for improvement for a school, they will pay careful attention to the way recommendations are written to ensure that these do not drive unnecessary workload for teachers.”

Formative Assessment Analysis & Mail Merge Report Generator

Formative Assessment Analysis & Mail Merge Report Generator

I have created an assessment analysis tool that can be used for any test up to 20 questions in length. The Excel sheet is primarily designed for science but could be redesigned for other subjects. A sheet is used to enter the year, title, question type, question marks and question description. The % at which levels are given can be changed to suit the year, assessment test in question. All of these will be used to generate a report. The report will have individual information about a students progress in the test. The data generated will be - Total, %, Residual, Level (9-1), Levels of Progress and Progress label. Depending on how well students did for individual questions, the report will highlight which areas (where a student achieved 50% or less of the marks available) students need work on to get them to standard. The test is broken down into the individual science aspects so that staff, pupils and parents can be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of individuals so that areas can be addressed where the standard is below what is expected. TO SEE WITHOUT PAYING - you can download the instructions. I have attached the instructions for the sheet that shows how the sheet works and examples of the generated Mail Merge report. This sheet will not only inform staff, pupils and parents but save time for the staff and be an invaluable tool in identifying areas to help pupils reach their targets.

Lesson Planning Guide based around Principles of Instruction

Lesson Planning Guide based around Principles of Instruction

In a bid to put some structure into my lessons and also incorporate all the pedagogical theories i have recently read about I created this guide to planning my lessons. It incorporates the 10 principles of instruction from Barak Rosenshine’s article of the same name as well as many aspects from Craig Barton’s book - How I Wish I’d Taught Maths to name just a couple of the inspirations. Principles of Instruction Low Stakes Quizzes Recall and Revision Example-Problem Pairs Minimally Varied Questions The guide is fully editable (power point) and although my examples are maths based, it could be used for any subject at any level The additional resources below are ideal to use with this lesson structure to check whole class understanding (using mini white-boards) ROUNDING : https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/infinite-rounding-and-estimating-spreadsheet-11928299 PLACE VALUE : https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/infinite-place-value-spreadsheet-11928286
