KS3/text level German Reading arrow-whole lesson introduction to reading strategies

KS3/text level German Reading arrow-whole lesson introduction to reading strategies

This tried and tested approach to reading provides a visual strategy which can be applied to a wide variety of texts in a second language or in English, improving not only language skills, but also general literacy. Particularly useful when exploiting authentic materials, it can equally be applied to more traditional texts and, once embedded, enables students of all ages to work successfully with more complex source materials than would otherwise have been the case. This resource models the strategy with a simple German text, however it can be applied to texts of a wide range of difficulty. It includes a ten slide teaching presentation to introduce the strategy, comprehensive teaching notes accompanied by thumbnails of all the materials, plus student sheets and the strategy arrow, which can be laminated for repeated use. The resource is also available modelled with a French text and with a Spanish text.

End of Term activity using authentic resources for beginners' German

End of Term activity using authentic resources for beginners' German

Here is an idea how to add more authentic resources as asked for in the new specifications. This is a worksheet and a presentation based on a German pop song and includes a gap fill, a translation task and a creative project. The song is slow and suitable for beginners but is ideally used after the introduction of numbers and plurals. (E.g. in chapter 2 of Stimmt 1). This download includes a PowerPoint with an introduction, the answer to the tasks and a translation of the text, a worksheet and a lesson plan. Note: This unit of work is based on the song Einmal by Die Prinzen. Please make sure you can access it on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZHrsf4xDE4 or somewhere else before buying. The song is not included.

Languages vocabulary workout - works for all languages

Languages vocabulary workout - works for all languages

Here's a game I invented to practise vocabulary - best for more advanced KS4 groups or KS5. Begin with the bits of vocab you want to learn cut up on small bits of paper. Cut some coloured card up as tokens. Instructions are on the board. Best played in groups of 3 -4. Best printed A3 if possible. Also great to explain to people born post 2000 is who Mr Motivator is. Essential cultural knowledge. I've attached some vocab I used as an idea.

Das Past - the German Past Tense Healthy Living Rap/Song

Das Past - the German Past Tense Healthy Living Rap/Song

This is a rap or song that includes a range of key verbs and their respective past tense forms for KS3/KS4 German. I prepared it for my class when working on the topic of health. It tells the story of an ex drug addict who overcomes his struggle... My pupils are really into rap and music and so they really loved it! We first went through all the structures, then went through all pronunciations and finally pupils came up with the idea to perform it using a gangsta rap instrumental track in the background: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IK-p7EFRs2w I hope you enjoy it!

DEDUCE THE AUTHOR KS3 Thinking Skills. Reading Practice.

DEDUCE THE AUTHOR KS3 Thinking Skills. Reading Practice.

A reading starter designed for my Year 8s. Students match the book titles to the authors. It's just a bit of fun but does make them think. It took mine a few minutes to figure out what they needed to do but once they got going they were engaged. It's not often they ask me to make more of something so I took that as a success!

Minesweeper Plenary Game

Minesweeper Plenary Game

End your lessons with a bang ! Use this game as a plenary activity. This can be used for any subject and any year. E.g. MFL – translation of vocabulary Maths – answers to sums. History – dates, facts I personally have used it for pupils to translate vocabulary covered in a topic, scaffolding questions, starting with single words and then building up to more complex sentences. How to run the activity: Split the class into two groups or more. Teacher asks a question to each group. Teacher selects by hands up (or miniwhiteboards, or team discussion). Teacher selects a pupil to give the answer. If the answer is correct – pupil can choose a mine. If there's a coin under the bomb - one point for your team If there's an explosion under the bomb - lose one point If there's a super bomb - the rubber duck of the evil clown - lose 2 points. The team with the most points wins!

Vocab revision game - any level, topic & language

Vocab revision game - any level, topic & language

Vocab revision game - really quick & easy to adapt to any level, topic or language. I usually use it either at the end of a topic to recap what they've learnt, or at the start of a topic or with a new class so I can find out what they already know. It&'s simple to explain and anyone can play it, regardless of ability and team size. My classes would happily play it all lesson if I let them! I&';ve uploaded another with Y7 topics - http://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/Vocab-revision-game-any-level-or-language-6342083

Blank board game

Blank board game

This is a blank board. Pupils customise it by drawing or sticking in pictures representing vocabulary items, then play the board game in groups of up to 4. When they land on an item they have to say the corresponding word or phrase or go back to where they were. Originally intended for French, there is only one written word (fin) on the whole sheet, which can easily be altered to say 'end&' in German or Spanish. A great opportunity to teach classroom phrases and game phrases. With thanks to another TES community member who contributed this as a board game about drinks in a cafe.

Who wants to be a millionaire Logo 2 Module 1

A revision ppt which runs through questions from Logo 2 Module 1. I made this for Quizdom which is a piece of equipment which allows students to vote for the correct answer. There is, however, no need to have this as it works as a normal ppt.
