GCSE Italian weather vocabulary listening gap fill, comprehension Qs - Song 'Io canto' Laura Pausini

GCSE Italian weather vocabulary listening gap fill, comprehension Qs - Song 'Io canto' Laura Pausini

Engaging pop song, ‘io canto’ by Laura Pausini, for GCSE Italian listening practice and comprehension. This activity allows students to practise practice hearing vocabulary from the topic of weather. It’s also a great way to introduce the topic of weather. 2 versions - 1. students have a choice of 2 words for the gap that’s missing; 2. more challenge, students have to search for the missing words from a list. Includes Teacher version with answers. Can easily be adapted for further more challenge, e.g. removing word options completely. Document is in Word format rather then PDF so that you can easily modify / students can write in the gaps as a digital version. Because it’s in Word format, when file is downloaded some text boxes may be in a slightly different position - if so, they’ll just need to be dragged a little so that they don’t cover the text/so they don’t look like they belong to a different lyric line. Have fun!

fun activity to learn Italian greetings and useful expressions (A1)

fun activity to learn Italian greetings and useful expressions (A1)

This resource is designed as formative assessment in a formal or informal learning environment. It consists in a jigsaw aimed at recapping greetings and various expressions in Italian. It is engaging and fun and can be used both with individual learners (one-to-one sessions) and with large groups. The ideal number of learners for one jigsaw is 4-5 learners and you tutor might want to create more decks according to the number of students in your class. This resource includes basic expressions that are not generally introduced in beginners Italian courses but belong to widespread knowledge (e.g. pronto, buon appetito, etc.). At the end of this activity you can give the revision hand-out consisting in a table where learners can write the English translation for each expression they have read in the jigsaw.

Magic square on Italian simple future tense of regular ERE-verb conjugation

Magic square on Italian simple future tense of regular ERE-verb conjugation

Students locate different conjugated forms of the verbs prendere, leggere, scrivere and credere and put the corresponding number in the correct square. Once they have located all verb forms and every square has a number in it, they sum up the numbers. If the numbers add up to 34 horizontally, vertically and diagonally, it means everything is correct. If it doesn’t, they have to find the error and correct it so that the numbers add up to 34. 34 is the magic number! My students love solving magic square. It’s challenging enough, yet fun and self-correcting. Enjoy!
