Adobe Illustrator basic tools

Adobe Illustrator basic tools

Having worked as freelance Illustrator for many years, I have created a booklet to print and handout to new students when learning Adobe Illustrator. The most useful tools and functions I use to produce illustrations are listed and located. A good starting point.

The Christmas Zombie Invasion!

The Christmas Zombie Invasion!

This is a highly entertaining Christmas lesson full of fun activities. Complete and ready to use. There’s nothing like zombies to capture the imagination of students! The lesson includes a fully explained activity where students build and fire simple catapults made from lolly (popsicle) sticks. This is done in the classroom (no need to go outside). You do NOT (not!) need to know how to build the catapult, the lesson carefully guides students so they can do it without help ! A story about an invasion of zombie Santas is told. Christmas is in jeopardy! The learners have to try to save Christmas by defeating the zombie horde and finding a cure to turn the zombies back into humans. All instructions are included and the lesson teaches the learners almost automatically, any of us can give this fun and imaginative lesson. How can we stop the zombie horde? How do we cure the zombies turning them back into people? Can your class save Christmas? The length of the lesson is very flexible depending on your needs. There are add and delete activities so the lesson can easily last anywhere between 0.5 hours and 1.5 hours depending on what you want. This lesson gets the learners out of their seats, keeps them happy, focused and engaged as they work in teams building and creating. There’s nothing like zombies to capture the imagination of students! It's a great lesson that teachers of any subject can use with all ages from 6 to 16. It won't go out of date (like a quiz might) so you can use it for years to come, which makes it excellent value at this price ! As well as being great fun and entertaining it is also educational and includes: literacy, numeracy, SMSC, team working skills, questions with answers, physical coordination skills, activities with answers, play ball game, joke telling etc High quality, ready to use lesson - great for teachers of all subjects! Happy teaching ! Barclayfox. I ran this project with year 9s and used it as a way to improve more technical machine skills and I ran demonstrations on the router, lathe, pillar drill and morticer. The four different types of sweet dispenser* I have shown how to make have varying levels of skill which allows for easy differentiation. It is also a project that allows students to develop their independent working skills.

Christmas Reindeer lollies

Christmas Reindeer lollies

This is a mini Christmas project you can do with any secondary year group. It is based on making a batch of a product to sell. The product is a paper wrapper round a lolly. The example is a reindeer but the idea is to come up with their own design. Areas that you could extend from this project include: Scale of production CAD vs handmade Design iterations Relate to factory production line Economical use of materials Profit margins Properties of paper Target market Quality assurance and control Tolerances and measuring - you could use other lollies Included in the powerpoint is the 2D Design of the reindeer that can be copy and pasted into 2 D design. I have also included making tips and teacher's notes on what materials to use and the lollies I used.

STEM Directory

STEM Directory

I've put together a spreadsheet containing a list of companies, organisations and charities that provide resources, events, programmes and competitions, etc. to promote and encourage STEM in schools. I hope you find it useful. Let me know what you think-I'm always looking to improve the resources I make.

Using Adobe Illustrator

Using Adobe Illustrator

For those of you unfamiliar with Adobe Illustrator, you might be daunted by teaching this to your class but this digital package is invaluable in the world of design. Designs created in this program can be exported into a number of other programs and this is a frequently used tool in the industry.

Yr 6 Pocket Torch Induction Task

Yr 6 Pocket Torch Induction Task

I have used this successfully for a number of years to engage, prospective new students on their induction day. The unit of work allows you to introduce the year 6 pupils to the design process, using the booklet in conjunction with the presentation. Also, it will allow you to highlight CAM as part of their induction (Laser Cutter). The project can be easily completed in an hour. You will need to prepare suitable design files, I have used a common 2D designing package for this. These types of files are not supported by TES but if you message me with your email address I am happy to send to you. Alternatively, create your own and alter the booklet and presentation to match.

Alphabet Analyser on the theme of 'Techsoft 2D Design'. Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Includes space for students to explain the keywords and suggested extension activities. Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!
