Algebra: Integration 4 - Areas bound by the Y-Axis (+ resources)

This is the fourth lesson looking at integration and follows on from the previous lessons by looking at the areas that are bound by the Y-Axis. Sometimes I do teach this as lesson 3 as to some degree it is logical to teach it in that order. 17 slides + worksheet + exam questions and all with answers. This is the third lesson that I teach on integration and follows on from the second lesson beginning to look at using integration to solve area questions. This lesson looks at area problems and more complex examples that are the type of questions that get asked in exams. 17 slides + a great practise worksheet with answers. This is the second lesson that I teach on integration and follows on from the introductory lesson. It does practise basic integration, but now puts it into the context of finding the originial equation and mainly finding an area under a curve. 25 slides + a great practise worksheet with answers. The lesson includes: Starter - a quick question on area to get students occupied as they come in and thinking Learning Objectives - differentiated by outcome Key Notation - explanation and detail given as this is often an area of confusion Teaching slides showing the process of integrating and substituting to find an original equation and some superb graphics and slides to teach about the area under the curve. It comes with lots of examples. AFL questions and activities for students to check understanding An excellent worksheet with ANSWERS. Added a fair simpler worksheet for the less able or to set for homework as practise of the basics. This is one of my favourite lessons to teach and the activity is one of the reasons. This is a whole lesson introducing the topic of integration. 25 slides. The lesson includes: Starter - a quick question on differentiation to get the brain working and to remind students the process of differentiation Learning Objectives - differentitated by outcome Key Words and Notation - a lot of explanation and detail given as this is often an area of confusion Teaching slides showing the process of differentiation and how integration is the opposite (often print these of as handouts for pupils. Teaching slides on +C making it really clear what it is and its importance Several superb and very clear teaching examples AFL activity for students to check understanding An excellent and really challenging matching activity. This comes with an accompanying handout on index rules as this is half the key battle. Includes ANSWERS. Added a fair simpler worksheet for the less able or to set for homework as practise. Plenary - a quick review and feedback on learning during the lesson before going further into more complex integration. Last time I taught this we ended up doing two lessons before moving on from the feedback as pupils were not confident enough on the basic skills NOT of integration but index rules. One of my responses was to to develop the handout with rules for support and guidance.
