Weather chart - UK

Weather chart - UK

I created this chart when curriculum 2014 came into effect to help me cover regularly the weather elements in the Science and Geography section with my KS1 children as well as 'time' within Maths. it is meant to be laminated or covered in sticky-back, clear adhesive so that it can be written on with a whiteboard marker. The months are colour coded to seasons and images are chosen to help the children learn the words and recall what happens over the year. My helpers of the day were responsible for updating the sticky images that were stuck on with sticky backed velcro. The sections with no small words in were written in at the beginning of every month by me. I did need to make three copies of the weather cards in case all three days had the same weather. Sometimes we had a discussion and sometimes the children completed the chart independently in the mornings. In maths, we used it to help organise and learn the days and months. The prediction of weather took a while for them to learn the difference between what they wanted the weather to be like compared to what the weather would probably be like in that season but did improve. It was also helpful to learn that sunny needn't mean warm which is why it has extended sections e.g. weather feeling cards too.

Whats The Weather Like On Mountains?

Whats The Weather Like On Mountains?

The weather in the mountains is very unpredictable and can change incredibly fast. One minute it can be fine and clear, the next there could be a blizzard with howling winds and driving snow, and then back to being clear and calm. Climbers need to be prepared for all eventualities and carry suitable equipment’s with them at all times and all these weather types can strike within the same one hour! These worksheets draw on the students senses as to describe these weather conditions.

Weather: A Foggy Day: Photo Collection

Weather: A Foggy Day: Photo Collection

A collection of photos taken on a very foggy day. This collection will be added to over time, and can be used for topics on weather, seasons, and the impacts of the weather on local people. For example, I live on a tiny, British island where we get a lot of foggy days. That means the ship and planes can't bring food to the island, or take us to the mainland of Britain if we want to see a doctor, dentist, or optician. So we get cut off from the outside world. We also can't get our post or newspapers on the foggy days. You may wish to link the photos with a free Skype Class with me to find out more about fog and life on a tiny British island and why we have two lighthouses. To follow my world first solo row around the coast of Britain and daily life as an explorer: * Free educational videos: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/sarahrowssolo or Amazon Video: http://amzn.to/2jno3v8 * Free virtual field trips: Skype in the Classroom: https://education.microsoft.com/vikingquest * Paid school speaker bookings: http://www.schoolspeakers.co.uk/speaker-listings/sarah-weldon
