Maths Long multiplication method Year 6 multiply multi-digit numbers up to 4 digits by a two-digit
In this lesson, students will learn to use the column multiplication method, they will will practise this along with how to approach word problems.
The activity is a game in which students move around the board in a group, picking up word problems and completing them as they try to reach the finish line! Mastery concepts such as completing missing multiplication calculations are given as a challenge as well as higher-level problem solving.
This lesson is appropriate for Year 5/6 students.
3 levels of differentiation provided in the problems to play with the game as well as answer sheets.

Maths multiplying & dividing decimals by 10,100 & 1000 Year 6
In this lesson, students will work towards the objective: To identify the value of each digit in numbers given to three decimal places and multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 giving answers up to three decimal places.
They will first revisit the place value of numbers with up to 3 decimal places, looking at the value of digits and missing place values in numbers. They will then look at multiplying and dividing decimals by 10,100 and 1000: they will experiment with a place value grid looking for patterns between the numbers when multiplied or divided. A number of questions on the board will allow them to practise this skill. Finally they will complete a worksheet which challenges them to recognise patterns, answer word problems and create their own calculations for a partner. An answer sheet is provided.
This is an engaging lesson which comes with an interactive power point presentation and all corresponding activity worksheets. It is designed for Year 6 but could easily be modified to suit lower KS2 and KS3.

Maths- Number and Place Value Year 6 lesson - read and write numbers up to 10 000 000
In this lesson, students will learn to identify the value of the digits in a number, write numbers in words and partition them according to place value. The learning is put into context as students research famous landmarks and write numerical facts about them and they complete problems related to the objective.
Simply follow this presentation to cover the objective in a fun and engaging way. A lesson plan is not provided as it is expected that classes will move through the presentation at their own speed.

In this lesson, children will review the short division method and practise the method showing their decimals as remainders also. After this, they will complete differentiated problems which require them to use the short division method and interpret the remainder according to the context of the problem.
This lesson is designed for a Year 6 class but can easily be adapted to suit Year 5 or Year 7 also.

In this lesson, students will recap their knowledge of 2d shapes considering their properties and how to measure angles accurately using a protractor. They will then learn how to draw angles and then how to draw shapes with given angles.

Maths Area and Perimeter Year 6
The perimeter is the total of all the side lengths of a shape added together and the area is the amount of two dimensional space a shape occupies. In this lesson, students will work on the objectives:* recognise that shapes with the same areas can have different perimeters and vice versa and recognise when it is possible to use formulae for area of shapes*.
In this lesson, students will learn how to calculate the area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes, understanding how formulae can be used. They will work on finding the area of real life buildings to help put their learning into real life context during the teaching input through an engaging power point presentation.

Lesson objective: To solve problems involving similar shapes where the scale factor is known or can be found.
In this lesson, students will learn what scale factor is and how to find out what scale factor a shape has been enlarged by. They will learn how we use scale factor in real life contexts and will use their knowledge of factors and multiples to work out what scale factor shapes have been enlarged by. In this lesson, students will work towards the objective: associate a fraction with division and calculate decimal fraction equivalents for a simple fraction.
They will first learn how to convert a fraction to a decimal using the short division method and will then convert a decimal to a fraction by multiplying by 100. They will have a number of differentiated conversions to complete to consolidate the skill and then will complete differentiated problems.
