Punctuation and SPaG Scheme of Work

Punctuation and SPaG Scheme of Work

(10)
Complete Punctuation and SPaG scheme of work for Key Stage 3 and GCSE. It’s time to win the battle against poor grammar and punctuation once and for all! Complete unit of work which will allow your students to master advanced punctuation as well as engage with a range of exciting creative writing tasks. If you are anything like me, explicit teaching/reminding of how to properly apply punctuation is ESSENTIAL for all ability ranges, especially with the new specification GCSE placing so much emphasis on AO6. These lessons are certainly geared more towards KS3 and KS4 students. Powerpoints are light hearted and fun, with plenty of images/colour and silly jokes to keep your students engaged and entertained. I’ve found these lessons serve as an excellent ‘crash course’ in punctuation either at the beginning of the academic year or in the run up to the GCSE exams. Below is a list of contents: Commas (£2 if purchased on its own) - Commas powerpoint lessons Commas in a list worksheet Commas in a complex sentences worksheet Colons (£2 if purchased on its own) - Colon powerpoint lessons Mastering colons worksheet Semi-Colons (£2 if purchased on its own)- Semi-colon lesson powerpoints Semi-colon worksheets (x2) Semi-colon writing success criteria worksheet Speech- (£2 if purchased on its own) Speech powerpoint lessons Speech worksheet Speech mixed practice worksheet Writing success criteria worksheet Editing and proof reading - (£3 if purchased on its own) Editing and proof reading mini scheme powerpoint (nearly 50 slides) Editing and proof reading worksheets (£2 if purchased separately) A wide range of proof reading worksheets that you can use to consolidate and improve your student’s SPaG and proof reading abilities after you have finished the unit of work. This unit would suit a range of abilities as there is lots of scope for stretch and challenge, with ambitious success criteria and extension tasks built in throughout. Scaffolding and differentiation options are built in where appropriate. Fully resourced and ready to roll, minimal adaptation or tweaking required. This is obviously a SPaG/Punctuation scheme of work, but it is equally focused on creative/descriptive writing too. Much of the content is therefore ideal for teaching general creative writing skills or preparing for the fiction writing task on the new specification (9-1) GCSE English Language exam. Act 4 Scene 1 Macbeth GCSE English Literature 9-1

Act 4 Scene 1 Macbeth GCSE English Literature 9-1

(6)
Everything you need to teach Act 4 Scene 1 of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. This is also available as part of a complete scheme of work whereby a considerable saving can be made; further details can be found here. This is a key scene so the powerpoint is very detailed, requiring at least 2 lessons to cover properly. The lessons have been created specifically for teaching at GCSE level, and cover the key assessment objectives for 9-1 New-Specification AQA: understanding of the text, language and structure, context/themes/author intent (although equally applicable to other exam boards). Differentiated outcomes and tasks allow you to reach all learners, although I would recommend the lessons specifically for middle to higher ability students. Throughout the scheme, students are encouraged to make notes and annotate the text, as this will be a valuable revision tool when preparing for exams. Teacher notes are provided on the PowerPoint to help explain and guide you through all phases of the lesson, with a range of interesting and engaging tasks for you to choose from. Importantly, full analysis is provided for all the tasks set, to enable you to lead interesting and engaging discussions which will deepen the students’ appreciation of the text. Strictly speaking, there is a lot more here than you would fit into a 1 hour lesson, so you may wish to spread this over a couple of lessons, or perhaps be a little selective with the tasks you wish to do. Drama - Duologues mini scheme. 5 original duologues and full lesson powerpoint

(0)
Here I have a lesson/mini scheme on duologues. This is a great way for students to pair up and study a script together. You may wish to have groups of three, with one student acting as director for the other two. There are five duologues for students to perform (so one can be done per lesson or you can give different groups different duologues, it's up to you). There is also a lesson powerpoint to coach students through preparing for, annotating, performing and evaluating their work. The duologues are my own creation and cover a variety of different themes and ideas. They have been deliberately crafted in order to present complex characters which challenge the performer to demonstrate a wide range of emotions. They are also relatively short, meaning your students shouldn't have too much bother learning lines. Most can be performed by either gender. They have worked incredibly well with my groups and I'm glad I introduced these lessons early in year 10. Little/no adaptation is required. 24 Extract Questions Jekyll and Hyde. AQA GCSE

(5)
This booklet contains over 24 exam style questions based on all the key extracts from Robert Louis Stevenson’s ‘Jekyll and Hyde’. Exam questions are worded in accordance with the latest GCSE English Literature 9-1 specification. Whilst I created this resource with AQA in mind, I’m sure this would prove useful for other exam boards too. Extracts are in chronological order, so students also revise plot and the development of themes/ideas as they tackle the questions. Each question is unique, meaning that the study guide covers all the major themes, events and characters in the novella. Ideal for all teachers as there are (obviously) very fewpast papers for the new specification. I reckon I’ve predicted a few future exam questions here! Visual aids for each chapter, and for certain extracts, are provided to help remind students of key events. There’s also a page of exam tips to help students produce more effective exam responses, containing content and analysis that examiners are specifically looking for. 40 pages jam packed with content. This would make the ideal companion to the study guide/student workbook I have produced on this novella (see shop) Ready to roll, everything a student needs to revise for the exam and boost their confidence in the run up to the exam. Little/no adaptation required and a guaranteed grade saver. Buy in confidence from a TES recommended gold author! DNA GCSE Revision and Study Guide.

(0)
This is a 38 page, fully loaded revision, study and comprehension resource for Dennis Kelly’s ‘DNA’. This has been written with the latest AQA (9-1) English Literature specification in mind, but I’m sure this would work equally well with other exam boards. This would also be ideal for drama specifications too. I’ve tried to make this revision guide as active as possible, so there are lots of activities and tasks for students to do as they work through the booklet. There’s a good balance of information and engaging tasks for students to work through. Contents of this guide run as follows: * Visual summary of plot * Storyboard resource for students to then recall the plot and key events from memory *Form and structure comprehension questions *Settings questions * Context (students explore key issues raised in the play such as youth stereotypes, gang culture, growing violence in the age of the internet etc) * Symbols and Motifs - lots of information about symbols and motifs in the play, followed by a revision activity * Key Quotes - Students explore key quotes through analysis of their meaning and significance, quotes are broken down chapter by chapter and provide thematic links etc. * Themes - Students make connections between themes, characters and events in the novel * Characterisation - Students have to complete a character profile for all the main characters using the study tasks provided * Key Terminology - Exploring some key terminology and vocabulary that will deepen their understanding of the play as well as impress examiners. * Exam question - a series of exam questions worded and structured in the same way you will expect to find them on the new 9-1 literature paper *Exam Techniques - Hints and tips on how to maximise performance in the exam. Ideal for all teachers as this is a new set text to be added to the specification. Definitely a grade saving resource that enables students to fully prepare for the exam and to explore the text from lots of different angles. Ready to roll, everything a student needs to revise for the exam and boost their confidence in the run up to the exam. Little/no adaptation required. Suitable for a range of abilities. Enjoy! Lots of image based activities which connect quite strongly to what they will encounter in the writing section of paper 1 on the new AQA 9-1 Language syllabus. There’s plenty of content here to fill at least a couple of lessons. Would work well as a standalone writing/literacy lesson or as part of the Writing scheme of work I have developed (see bundle). Ready to go, lots of differentiation and Assessment for Learning built in to the activities. If you loved the resource and think it’s worth 5 stars, why not get another one absolutely free? An Inspector Calls GCSE Context Posters

(4)
A collection of detailed and visually appealing posters exploring the context of An Inspector Calls in relation to when the play was set. These are great to have as a classroom display in your room. Similarly, these can be used as part of a marketplace activity whereby students learn about various contextual factors during a lesson. Rather than focus on specific contextual facts, I’ve broken context down into key themes, that way students can make more effective links between social/historical context and the play itself. Ideal for helping students to understand and embed AO3 into their analysis. If you liked the resources it’d be great if you could leave a review. This would be ideal as both a 'dry run' for the OCR GCSE new specification 'devising drama' unit, or for a standalone unit at key stage 3. In the booklet, students will: - Respond to a stimulus image - Come up with a range of concepts in relation to the image - Storyboard their main idea - Create character profiles for major characters - Write a portion of a script for the performance - Evaluating rehearsals -Evaluating performances -Engaging in a range of design work activities (such as set and costume designs) Has proved popular with studnets (fun) and staff (low maintenance) Feedback welcomed and appreciated!

Writing the perfect essay - introductions and conclusions. GCSE English Literature preparation

(18)
This is a short powerpoint guiding students through extended reading responses in English, showing them the core ingredients of good introductions and conlusions, whilst also providing modelled examples of effective and ineffective essay style. This is useful in the run up to mock or final examinations, as students often don't know how to start or end their essays in the most effective way. The examples provided relate to Shakespeare's Macbeth, but the activities could relate to any of the set texts they are likely to encounter in GCSE English literature. Feedback welcomed and appreciated.
