Here I have a lesson/mini scheme on duologues. This is a great way for students to pair up and study a script together. You may wish to have groups of three, with one student acting as director for the other two. There are five duologues for students to perform (so one can be done per lesson or you can give different groups different duologues, it's up to you). There is also a lesson powerpoint to coach students through preparing for, annotating, performing and evaluating their work. The duologues are my own creation and cover a variety of different themes and ideas. They have been deliberately crafted in order to present complex characters which challenge the performer to demonstrate a wide range of emotions. A collection of detailed and visually appealing posters exploring the context of An Inspector Calls in relation to when the play was set. These are great to have as a classroom display in your room. Similarly, these can be used as part of a marketplace activity whereby students learn about various contextual factors during a lesson. This is a short powerpoint guiding students through extended reading responses in English, showing them the core ingredients of good introductions and conlusions, whilst also providing modelled examples of effective and ineffective essay style. This is useful in the run up to mock or final examinations, as students often don't know how to start or end their essays in the most effective way. The examples provided relate to Shakespeare's Macbeth, but the activities could relate to any of the set texts they are likely to encounter in GCSE English literature.
