I designed a lesson for my able Year 8 French group which could also be suited to GCSE students based around a past disasterous visit to a fictitious French restaurant. The lesson revolves around a differentiated reading comprehension task based on reviews of people’s experiences at La Bouffe restaurant. This culminates in students being asked to write their own restaurant reviews about a visit. Some may wish to use an online voice recorder, such as Vocaroo to record and submit their restaurant reviews.

A 783-word model written response to the new AQA A-level French 7652 Paper 2 question "Faïza Guène présente Kiffe kiffe demain comme un journal. Comment est-ce que cela affecte la façon dont l’histoire est présentée ?" The response is followed by a comprehensive vocabulary list which will enable pupils of all levels to access the model response. Pupils can use the model response to identify point, evidence and personal evaluation in each main paragraph, as well as to draw out useful generic essay language which they can in turn use in their own work.

This is an extensive 1043-word model response to the A-level French Paper 2 question on Kiffe Kiffe Demain « Ce livre présente surtout une image optimiste de la vie en banlieue parisienne. » Dans quelle mesure êtes-vous d’accord avec ce jugement ? The document also contains activities aimed at exploiting the model essay, including a phrase finder task for useful generic essay structures, a match-up synonym task of words/expressions found in the essay, a French > English translation task and a summary task which will require students to summarise what they understand from each of the paragraphs in the main body of the essay in English following the point, evidence and personal evaluation rationale in terms of structure. This template then serves as a basis for students to commence their own plan to attempt the same essay question.

Le Silence de la Mer Questions & Ideas - Some exemplar speaking questions based around the story chapter by chapter with model answers. Le Silence de la Mer Discussion webs - Pupils read the statement in the middle and then to skim through novel to find relevant quotes or section to back up statement. E.g. "Werner aime le silence" Commentez le rôle de l’oncle et son importance dans « le Silence de la Mer » - Model plan in English to respond to an A2 essay writing question. LE SILENCE DE LA MER Questions for entire novel: Questions with gaps for pupils to jot down their own answers for subsequent discussion in class. This allows a structured step-by-step approach to covering the Guided Study Topic.

An exemplar 618-word model A-level French essay I wrote on the film La Haine about the influences of the film's director Mathieu Kassovitz. It also has a few comprehension exercises thereafter.

Phonics-focused lesson geared towards GCSE-level pupils on the topic of Music. Includes a retrieval practice starter which can easily be adapted to suit prior learning/topics. Activity based around a Stromae song which includes examples of the phonics. There are then some modelling and repetition of vocab from the topic of Music, TV & Cinema from the AQA spec, as well as a differentiated listening and transcribing task with answers and suggested WWW/EBIs.

This 545-word essay is a strong model in response to the French A-Level AQA Paper 2 November 2020 question “Analysez les aspects du film qui expliquent pourquoi La Haine reste pertinent en 2020.” It includes a list of 7 possible points/ideas in English that pupils could use to base paragraphs in their main body on. It is useful to exploit in detail in conjunction with my La Haine essay writing framework to draw out key structural expressions and also to delve into the use of synonyms to avoid repetition.

A 31-slide PowerPoint which includes at least 3 lessons worth of materials and activities enabling pupils to build a greater knowledge of the general, social, cinematographic and biographical contexts of the film La Haine by Mathieu Kassovitz. Activities include timed gap-fill tasks, reading comprehension tasks, grammar tasks, speaking tasks, research-based 70-word reading summary tasks and translation tasks.

A model AS French essay on the benefits and drawbacks of living together in contrast to getting married. This can be annotated or key vocabulary and/or structures can be identified and adapted by students.

Reading comprehension worksheet with vocabulary finder task and comprehension questions. Pupils can also texts as models for their own responses, which are ideal for GCSE speaking and writing preparation. The sentence building task is using phrases and ideas from the reading comprehension worksheet and along with the support column, pupils translate the English sentences into French to form an extended paragraph about how a town used to be.

Paired speaking task. Pupils ask each other the questions on their resource about La Haine and pupils to then peer-assess using the AQA A2 marks scheme. This can easily be adapted to use any part of the mark scheme & include different questions to suit what has been taught. This enables students to identify areas upon which to focus revision.

A longer text about a past school trip with a parallel gap-fill text to test pupils' comprehension of German text. This can be accessed in a variety of ways and serves as a useful model for Controlled Assessment Speaking and/or Writing preparation.

My response to the A-level essay question Analysez les principaux thèmes ou les principales idées du metteur en scène que vous avez étudié. Comment avez-vous réagi à ces thèmes ou à ces idées ? which is relevant for either the legacy or the new-style A-level courses. This is a great model resource to discuss the importance of structure and to access for vocabulary and essay-writing phrases. We discuss the importance of the PEE model (Point-Evidence-Evaluation) and sometimes get pupils to do group work whereby each group evaluates a paragraph and explains PEE in each to other groups. ***NOW INCLUDES ASSOCIATED EXERCISES FOR PUPILS, INCLUDING PHRASE-FINDER AND TRANSLATION OF EXPRESSIONS WITHIN ESSAY***

A comprehensive 926-word model essay on the new AQA AS French Paper 2 writing title on La Haine "Examinez les similarités et les différences entre Saïd, Vinz et Hubert dans La Haine." The essay covers every one of the suggested bulletpoints and can be exploited in a variety of ways, and also includes a vocabulary list with key expressions and vocabulary used throughout the essay.

A model text with three reading comprehension tasks about previous and current sporting activities/physical exercise habits with examples of perfect, imperfect, present and future tenses. The exercises include reading comprehension questions, a vocabulary finder and an adaptation task whereby pupils use language in the model text to create new ideas. Pupils can subsequently use the model text as inspiration for their own written piece.

Model 630-word answer to the AQA A-Level French Paper 2 writing question. Very useful as an exemplar following possible mock writing paper reviews using the 2018 series, or simply to dig into for good structures, language and verb-tense recognition tasks.

Useful resource I created for all my GCSE French classes and also my KS3 top sets. Key verbs in 3 tenses and also time markers and conjunctions. These phrases are the high frequency type of expressions used in speaking and writing and it now includes phonetics for each one.

A 28- page French helping hand booklet, which can be used from Year 7 right up to those struggling in Sixth Form. A booklet of approx. 40 questions suitable for the French A2 speaking exam on various aspects of the film La Haine. Pupils can annotate the pages and add/build their ideas they acquire throughout the teaching of the Guided Study Option. I have reviewed and lowered the price following feedback. The questions we set have been thoroughly successful and our centre attained 100% A*-C in the A2 speaking exams in the last two years these questions have been used as a basis for discussion. A small number of the questions are intentionally similar to suit candidates of varying ability.

A model response I wrote for my AS German group in response to the Jan 2012 AQA GERM1 Q12 writing question "Warum gibt es oft Konflikte zwischen den Generationen? Wie kann man solche Konflikte lösen?". I asked pupils to read this firstly and look up and annotate any unknown vocabulary, before ticking separate points which were relevant to either part of the essay title. This enabled pupils to see the number of points being made relevant to title. Then I asked them to look at the various grammatical structures I used and you may wish to go as far as getting the AS German grammar spec and ticking off what is covered in essay.
