A collection of slides to help students revise the particle physics topics in Unit 1 of AQA Physics A. They are a collection of my old university notes and materials I have developed on the following topics: The Particle Zoo (Hadrons, Leptons etc) Conservation Rules Quarks The Photoelectric Effect One version is a printable PDF version, one is suitable for IWBs Feedback is very welcome as I am recently qualfied teacher always looking to improve my resources (please be kind though!)
Making a Resistor

Making a Resistor

(4)
A practical I do with my year 9 group (but could be adapted for GCSE). We make a basic variable resistor by shading in an area on grid paper using graphite pencils. Then see how resistance is affected with length.\n\nI originally got the idea from a video clip I saw on YouTube, the link is attached here.\n\nYou will need to have digital multimeters to do this, that have a setting to measure resistance.\n\nNB: I'm a recently qualified teacher, so constructive comments on my resources and how they can be improved are really welcome! So please leave a comment if you used them! Thanks!

Physics of the Brazuca World Cup Ball

I use this activity with my middle ability year 9 group, but it can be adapted to other abilities. \n\nI showed the YouTube video of the Brazuca ad first, as a quick intro. Then the students need to read through the National Geographic article on the Brazuca and attempt to answer the questions. The article and questions should take around 25 mins or so. \n\nOn the electronic copy of the article, the hyperlinks still work if you want to take it further.
Radiation Doses Activity

Radiation Doses Activity

(0)
Activity I do with my groups on size of doses from sources. I teach in Mexico so the word document mentions figures for Mexico. Students can graph using Excel or by hand and then compare different doses of radiation. The image is from the website xkcd and is public domain so can be reproduced. Its a big image and needs to be printed in A3 to be readable. If you cannot print it out the weblink is attached. I really welcome feedback, on how I can improve this resource! Thanks!
