Theme 1 - 1.1 - Me, my family and friends AQA French Higher GCSE (Oxford), p.19 3 worksheets which explain clearly the formation of the reflexive verbs 'se fâcher', 'se disputer' and 's'entendre'. The exercises encourage students to learn 3 reflexive verb paradigms by heart before completing a range of tasks from memory. AQA; Theme 2 - 8.1 - Holidays and Travel Students read an account of a holiday in Paris and complete a range of tasks which will help them remember the key vocabulary, verbs and structures to write their own account of a past holiday. There is a ‘nous’ and an ‘on’ version for each set of tasks. Ideal for helping your GCSE students prepare for their writing exam and the translation task into and from French.

I wrote this resource to complement the AQA French Oxford coursebook but it could be used in conjunction with other GCSE coursebooks. It is based on the theme of ‘Ma famille et mes amis’ and comprises 5 well differentiated translation worksheets. Each worksheet begins with vocabulary practice followed by revision of key grammar (adjectival agreement, comparative and superlative adjectives, reflexive verbs in the present tense and negatives) and ends with a short text to translate from memory into French. The powerpoint provides the answers to the 5 translation tasks. This resource would ideally be used after ‘Ma famille et mes amis (part 1)’ which gives a more in-depth treatment of grammatical points. However, for more able students, it could be used on its own.

This well differentiated resource comprises 2 worksheets and 2 ppts. to accompany pp. 54, 55 of Studio 1 coursebook. The worksheets are great to keep your students busy in class or to set as homework to consolidate key vocabulary and sentence structure. The tasks include reading comprehension, spelling and vocabulary practice, using the partitive article with sports, sentence building and translation from and into French. A wordsearch activity will help reinforce key vocabulary. Most of the exercises are on ppt. making it easier for you to explain structure, discuss pronunciation and go over answers with your students.

Based on the G.C.S.E. topic of poverty and homelessness, it could be described as a self-contained resource which assumes very little previous knowledge of the language. 15 items of key vocabulary are practised repeatedly via a range of reading, writing and speaking tasks. This ‘less is more’, repetitive approach is particularly suitable for lower ability students who find it difficult to learn and retain key language.
