**Fast fashion - how are our clothing choices affecting the environment? ** A detailed, editable 1 hour lesson all about the fast fashion industry and the reasons why we need to consume and dispose of clothing responsibly. Created to fit an ‘adaptive teaching style’ the lesson is influenced by Rosenshine’s principles of instruction, and promotes both cognitive and metacognitive strategies. In this lesson, the students will discuss the global impact of the fast fashion industry and identify examples of sustainable and unstainable clothing materials. We will describe the environmental impact of our consumption of low-cost fashion and find out what happens to our donated and unwanted clothing. The lesson is ideally suited to students in UKS2 or younger students in KS3. The resources are fully editable, and therefore easy to amend should you wish to use the resources with other year groups. The lesson is fully-scaffolded, contains a variety of activities, an hour long PowerPoint, contains a video clip with accompanying questions, and has clear measurable outcomes and success criteria. AQA GCSE Geography lesson for the new specification Unit 2B: In this lesson we look at the environmental impacts of quarrying in the UK. The lesson starts with a quick true or false retrieval practice quiz with sound effects. We then look at a photo of a quarry and the pupils think about all the impacts the quarry may be having on the physical environment. There are possible answers on the next slide. We then look at ways that industry might be able to become more sustainable. The pupils have hexes and are asked to develop the points further by explaining their potential impacts. There are suggestions on the following slide. We then look at quarrying and Torr Quarry as an example. The pupils have an info sheet and a knowledge organiser to complete with questions relating to Torr Quarry and Quarrying. There is also a video clip on quarry restoration to help with this section. We are always looking for ways of making our lessons more exciting and accessible to the pupils, doing something different in a different way to make a difference. Enterprising teaching and learning by any other name. Here I offer a lesson that I have taught to a low ability year 7. The topic was ‘The Rock Cycle’ and I wanted to show how through the application of heat and pressure you could change the structure of the rocks (i.e. how metamorphic rock is formed). This is a difficult concept for some pupils to grasp. So what better way to demonstrate this concept than by making CHEESE TOASTIES. Please have a go at teaching the lesson and make a difference through doing something different in a different way.
